The Television Streaming Thread: Part III

Completed the Severance rewatch with my wife, who was watching for the first time. Saw a lot I missed on the first viewing. Was fun witnessing someone see it for the first time. Also watched the just-released first 8 minutes of the first episode of season two:

Iā€™ve said before that I trust the makers of this show, but I have to admit Iā€™m a little worried. I am assuming the things Mark is told by Mr. Milchick are not true. Itā€™s not really going to be a mostly-new cast, is it?

I will watch Original Sin. I honestly donā€™t remember too much about New Blood, just not liking it.

I was a big fan of early Dexter seasons but have zero desire to watch any of these spinoffs. The last few seasons where hard enough for me to get through.

Balance between bailing too early (some shows have bad seasons then recover, though theyā€™re fairly rare imo)and sticking with a show too long.

I bailed from Dexter once his sister discovered his murderous ways, felt like the right time.

Fargo season 1 and 2 were amazing. Skipped to season 5 because the description sounded good but struggling to make it through now.

Thereā€™s definitely a dropoff after season 2. 5 was very hit or miss.

Squid Game season 2ā€¦engage.

The assassin in the kilt was 10/10, otherwise not a big fan of S5.

I thought that was the dumbest thing about it, Iā€™m not a fan of the supernatural stuff. S1 and S2 didnā€™t need any of that and they were great.

S2 did have a weird UFO that appeared out of nowhere. Iā€™m still not sure what to make of that.

I forgot about that.

Squid Game season 2 mid season thoughts:

First two episodes of season two feature a disappointing amount of squid games, but the cliffhanger ending of ep2 promises the slow burn will be worth the wait.

Thereā€™s a trans character! But they arenā€™t played by a trans actor.

Hyun-juā€™s actor isnā€™t trans in real life, and thereā€™s a sad reason: there arenā€™t many openly trans actors due to Koreaā€™s attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ community.

As the showā€™s creator Hwang Dong-hyuk explained to TV Guide, ā€œWhen we researched in Korea, there are close to no actors that are openly trans, let alone openly gay, because unfortunately in the Korean society currently the LGBTQ community is rather still marginalized and more neglected, which is heartbreaking.ā€

ā€˜Bookieā€™ season 2 has begun on Max, funny show

Never have i kept watching a funny show with such grating actors. I think Corddrey and (oddly) the wife are the only 2 I wouldnā€™t replace

Skeleton Crew has some elite lines. Iā€™m actually surprised Disney approves of some of the dialogue.

10 year old kid asking Jude Lawā€™s character:
ā€œWhatā€™s a concubine?ā€
ā€œWhatā€™s a pleasure cruise?ā€

Iā€™m probably in the minority here, but I gave up on skeleton screw halfway into episode 5. Just decidedly meh. The whole interaction between Elephant kid and theā€¦other world was incredibly forced, in true modern SW fashion. Annoying kid is just annoying with no redeeming features. 2 bags, would not recommend.

Done with 4 episodes of Severance. Did people say it was very slow when it came out? Iā€™m totally hooked so far and have no notes on the pacing, just great all around!

From what I have seen there are two groups of people

  1. They were all in from the get go
  2. Took a while but after the finale they were all in

I was in group 1, but nothing wrong with group 2

Was slow go for me at the beginning. In fact Iā€™d say most of the way through. But the finale delivered huge time.
