The Television Streaming Thread: Part III

yeah this is a good point, it’s definitely better, but it’s not as easy drinking

Chet’s Shirt is an all timer curb ep that I think is a good one to determine if the show is for you. It’s the first one I made my mom watch with me

Nothing against Charli, but I was not feeling that episode much at all. I did like the monologue and Weekend Update was outstanding. But everything else was meh at best.

I guess the Domingo skit would have been good had they not done the exact same thing just last month.

Yeah. You can do recurring skits (e.g. Bargatze/Washington) but there is a certain way to do it, and Domingo wasn’t it.

I watched S2 eps 1-3 last night and lol it was instantly about Seinfeld :grinning:

I really like the show, it’s just that I prefer mega dark stuff like Ozark, BCS, The Diplomat. Curb is so damn goofy. But it’s good to put on when I’m watching TV with my housemates.

I think by far the most important element is time. The Washington 2 skit would have flopped hard if they did it a month later.

I realize you probably can’t wait a year to do a Hot To Go skit, but there would have been a different popular song next fall.

What were the complaints about Ozark? I’m on s1e8 and so far so good. Much better than I remember when I watched the first few episodes.

Well, you’ve got to suspend your disbelief in these shows, but let’s just say there are a lot of implausible things that happen which require a lot more suspension of disbelief than is customary (especially towards the end). The creators are seemingly big fans of deus ex machina as a plot device.

Yeah SNL sucks it was just awesome to have the Charli content

My friend,

we definitely have different definitions of “mega dark” if The Diplomat fits in that category!

I wouldn’t put BCS in there either tbh. Something like The Terror S1, Hannibal and True Detective S1 fits the bill.

Lettuce revise to light to mega dark. Compared to Curb tho BCS is true night.

Finished Agatha All Along. My wife and I thought the first half was kind of boring, but it picked up significantly in the back half and got very interesting. In the end, we enjoyed it.

Six Feet Under still quite not drawing me in, so fired up a re-watch of EP1 of Succession–and then watched 3 more EPs in quick, well, succession.

A big problem with SFU is that it is more episodic than serial. Yes there are story arcs in the show but every episode starting with a weird death and their funeral takes up huge parts of each episode and rarely ever contributes to the overall plot.

It’s still a great show for its time period.

Oi, when I thought we were about to see the murder of a baby in Ozark, I was preparing myself to call that show ultra dark. Fortunately it was just a baptism.

Summary

I think there is a psychology of being a victim of such an act that none of us can comprehend. Society, the courts etc have long based a very high burden on the victims of sex crimes. It did not seem like such a stretch to me.—-The arc of the husband is quite interesting. Stephen’s retort of “why didn’t you” question the affair narrative and Catherine’s pointing out his apparent comfort that she’d been raped vs cheating was devastating. I must admit to allowing myself to be blindsided which I don’t think was the intent of the series. The title itself is proclaiming to not trust the narrative until the full story is told. I was kind of hate watching and rooting for the Kline character, so I find myself in the position of Stephen or Robert with a bit of shame for my treatment of Catherine.—I need to go back and see what the interactions were with the girlfriend after Jonathon’s death. Did both the Mom and Catherine at least attempt to speak with her?

Aw man, things are no longer coming up Millhouse.

Alternately, goodbye sweet Thrillho

They’re casting a new Milhouse, so I guess this is an early sign that the Simpsons will continue eventually with an all new cast for the same characters.
