The Television Streaming Thread: Part III

Lol you quit too soon then. Game is top tier and it’s not close

Yeah seconded. Never played the game but the show is incredible.

That may have happened to me if I watched curb first. I watched Seinfeld as it aired, so there is probably a nostalgia factor to it.

Also Seinfeld aged poorly in one important way. More than half of their problems could be solved with a cellphone. If you didn’t watch it until decades later I can see how the whole thing seems kind of silly.

Perhaps so. This will happen on occasion if you’re trying not to give in to sunk cost fallacy too freely. Part of that is not getting too hung up on “but maybe…?”

Breaking Bad might be the most riveting television of all time but it’s also an exercise in nihilism after Walt murders Jane (and Jesse’s shot at redemption).

Only seen a few episodes of Curb. I saw most of Seinfeld when it first aired. I liked it then and I like it now, though the laugh track gets super annoying. It was a big deal when the season finale hit, which I more or less think stuck the landing.

I’ve been rewatching Seinfeld lately as the thing I fall asleep to.

My bus-watching show lately is Ozark.

Ozark is solid. Not great. Not terrible. Very watchable. Gets more hate than it deserves, despite its obvious flaws.

curb is all over the place and trending down for years. But for me the top 20% is great and the top 5% is in the conversation for funniest tv of all time. But for a lot of folks Larry’s personality isn’t funny it’s an absolute dealbreaker. The good news is it sure doesn’t take long to find out where you stand! A gateway episode for many ppl is Palestinian Chicken

Is this a show I need to watch in order or can I just start there? I think I’ve seen the pants boner ep two or three times.

To a greater extent than Seinfeld (though Seinfeld started doing this too at some midpoint in the series), Curb does consistent season-long arcs, so at the least I wouldn’t just jump in on a midseason episode. But that Palestinian Chicken one is episode three of its season (S8), so it wouldn’t take long to get there from the season opener.

I loved the show from the get-go, but many fans feel that it didn’t hit its stride until Season 2 or 3.

Another, earlier classic gateway episode that has no season arc is The Doll S2 EP 7.

yeah what LKJ said, the seasons have their own internal arcs and there are also some running jokes and relationships throughout the run. Most of the bits stand up by themselves but watching the episodes in rando order wouldn’t work

I’m shitty at remembering shows as individual seasons but I just looked at a couple Curb rankings and was mostly nodding along with the lists, enough to say that seasons 2-3-4 and 6-7-8 were high points

The episodes are short & popcorny so you’re not going too wrong if you start at S01E01. But if you want to get right to the sure things then I’d maybe start with 2-3-4, knowing that as a Seinfeld fan you are building to something fun in 6-7-8.

imo 9-10 also worth it, and then you can cherry pick S1, 5, 11 from best-of lists or just knock them out. With a little grit you could prob finish all this by wednesday

Yeah, I’m one of these. It’s not as strong as, say, Parks and Rec on the “skip season 1” recommendation scale, but I’d just as soon tell someone they could start a little later on Curb too.

Just finished it.

I’m not buying that she wouldn’t just have been like “this isn’t true at all!” from the very start.

I’ll try this out.

You can always go back and watch S1, and at some point you’ll probably want to.

Charli hosting SNL was everything, man

And then out of nowhere, former cast member Kyle Mooney pops up in her monolog. Had no idea he would cameo. He’s one of my favorite SNL alums, and created some of my favorite YouTubes before that and one of my favorite films (the criminally underrated Brigsby Bear) after that

And she roasted straight people in her monolog while crediting her gay fanbase

I never saw any of those 6…

Betting lines for times I’ve seen a series

Sopranos o9.5

Deadwood o3.5

The Wire o3.5

Larry Sanders o4.5

Peep Show o2.5

Looking o3.5
