The Television Streaming Thread: Part II - Hot Takes, Jags Fans, and Bert

Ted Lasso, Coda ….

I thought Severance was solid from Episode 1. Yes, the story telling was more deliberate and the tone was fairly melancholy in the earlier episodes but I was intrigued from the start.

Watched it with my wife and she felt the same. Of course there is the ramp up beginning with e7 but I was already invested.

The comments here and elsewhere kept me in. Really like all the E9 reveals.

Almost done with The Americans. Just a few episodes left. Overall I think it’s quite good. Maybe not top tier, but just a shade below.

Rhys accent gets noticeably better in subsequent seasons. I’m not sure I would have picked up on the actor playing Season 6 Philip not being American. Although, it was obvious in Season 1.

We really picked a weird time to watch as we started around the time Russia invaded Ukraine. This has been a problem for Mme Melkerson. I think the viewers are supposed to have some empathy for Elizabeth and Phillip, but she can’t muster any because of all of the real-world Russia stuff. As far as she is concerned anyone working for Russia/USSR should just fuck off

Hot take Moon Knight sucks what is this nonsense. Surprised Isaac signed up for this. At least its only 6 eps.

My pony is slow but I’m two eps into The Outsider and it’s fantastic.

It’s standard Stephen King imo. Really interesting and exciting early on. Forgettable after.

I really like the way it’s directed. Some great shots and performances.

mrs socialist watched it while i was distracted by UP. after ten minutes i suddenly involuntarily went “is that obama???!?”

Old Enough on Netflix is a show that’s been popular in Japan for decades. The premise is simple:

Toddlers, often barely old enough to walk and talk, are sent out alone on their first errand.

Think it’s something that wouldn’t interest you in the slightest?

Think again.

American southern version

Tim-Bob JR struggles pushing the small dolly across busy highway along the gator infested swamp. Jim-Bob Sr is damn proud of his little man’s success while he taps the pony keg.

It is pretty entertaining.

But man I don’t think that show would work in America. The drivers in Prague are too crazy for it to work in the Czech Republic either.

Not with Disney pedophiles running around snatching up children, that’s for sure.

I thought the first episode was fantastic and the next two have gotten considerably worse. I guess I’ll finish it at this point, one good thing about releasing an episode at a time is it feels like less of a slog

Tokyo Vice episode 4. I do like the small detail that he’s from Missouri so when someone brings up Kansas he says it’s arguably an inferior state.
