lol it’s to the point where I see Cinema and think of kyrsten sinema
First episode of Succession season 3 was awesome. Show delivers so hard.
It’s been posted about before, but “The Movies that Made Us” on Netflix is great. I am an absolute sucker for well-edited docuseries and this one is very well done.
Was way too noticeable how many scenes were shot in tiny nondescript interiors. If I’m going to watch nihilistic wealth porn, give me the wealth porn.
I’m convinced they use/created the theme song for Succession just because it sounds badass when they walk up to get their Emmys.
Haven’t watched it, but this looks like fun:
I have been intermittently keeping up on On Cinema since the podcast days. I think the quality of it is uneven, if mostly very funny. At its best though it really transcends satire and becomes something genuinely great. I like it better then the Sopranos. At the very least the Heidecker Trial should 100% be in the national Film Registry. A triumph.
That said I don’t know that I have ever actually recommended it to anyone. Idk seems too weird and impenetrable.
Holy shit this is amazing. Never heard of it. Thanks.
Watched another Korean show called “My name”. Was good stuff, few twists. The Koreans love their knifes and cigarettes. Amazing how many stab wounds you can apparently survive and nobody seems to ever hit any organs. :D
Korean pop culture is having an interesting moment right now, what with Squid Game, Parasite, kpop and kdramas.
Gochujang is good stuff.
Yeah, I quite liked it. Haven’t thought about whether I liked it more than S3 but it was good.
Bummed they had to write Lynette off but I enjoyed what Jack’s new relationship brought out of him.
You gotta go for the gochujang plus doenjang combo. That’s the base for my “Korean” soup with tofu. Serve with steamed rice and kimchi. Breakfast of champions.
Agree, but I’d change moment to “few years”. Kpop got the ball rolling quite a while ago.
How can HBOMax have Taken 2 but not Taken?
I think I’m 3(?) episodes into Midnight Mass. It’s ok so far. Enough to keep me watching but not blowing me away, and that’s fine, it’s really all I ask of a show.
It looks like some of the characters, especially the senile mom, are wearing excessive make-up. Is that a correct observation?
Fuck, yeah.
Before K-pop there was J-pop. The reason K-pop and associated Korean pop culture has beaten out its Japanese counterpart is that the former has massive government backing while the latter has almost nil.
Beyond that, other than the linguistic and cultural differences there is little discernable difference in the quality of art.
I remember loving Mel Brooks films when I was a wee lad.
