The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

I liked the first episode of season 8.

Iā€™ll watch Game of Thrones some day.

Or not. I said the same about The Wire and havenā€™t watched it

More seaons 6, lol at Ramsey being tied to a chair in a cage with his dogs he hasnā€™t fed in 7 days and saying ā€œTheyā€™re loyal to meā€. Only the most naĆÆve Grizzly Man person would believe that dogs arenā€™t going to eat anything when theyā€™re hungry enough, and Ramsey is a psychopath.

Anyone up for a Wire S1 watch-along when BJ and I are done watching Twin Peaks?

Sure.

Yeah, I donā€™t remember when exactly GOT went bad or if there was a specific moment. I will say the season 6 finale was one of the best episodes the show ever did. As they got further from the books, you started seeing bad dialogue creep into the writing and such, but even that isnā€™t what really marked it going off the rails for me. It (what went wrong, not the show) was strong in season 8 and maybe was there in season 7, too, but the big thing for me was that the writers didnā€™t even try to develop or show character motivations in a way to make their actions plausible. They could have done this, too, because there is something reasonable for most of the actions people take down the stretch. They just didnā€™t care enough to do anything but check off the plot points they were told had to happen.

Watch-along? How?

We all watch and post memes and stuff, but now that I think about it, itā€™d be hard if youā€™re on the other side of the planet.

Depends on the day/time. Iā€™m 6 hours ahead though I tend to stay up very late on some Saturdays because of UFC.

I have an uncle, Pavel, who was seduced by the west. He fled to America. Needless to say, things did not end well. He was forced to start his own business just to survive. He opened a car wash.

-What the fuck is a car wash?

Yeah, Americans are so lazy they canā€™t be bothered to wash their own cars.

-What???

They exploit the poor to do it for them.

I am confused about episode 3. They appear to simultaneously hate the cat but also be concerned about the cats well being.

Come to think of it, that was the same relationship I had with my wifeā€™s cat.

Iā€™m rewatching it with my gf (her first time); we just finished Season 3 last night. The show holds up really well.

I just watched the Wire for the first time back in March and yeah, it holds up really well. For a show about tracking criminals using beepers and pay phones while writing up reports on typewriters, it feels surprisingly fresh. McNulty is a pretty good anti-hero.

So many cop shows have shown police work as being this high-tech cutting edge field of forensic science and master interrogators. The wires portrayal of just mostly average folks doing a bunch of grunt work was unique but felt a lot more real.

This scene may be one of the best in TV history. When I first watched it I must have rewound it about a dozen times. Itā€™s non-spoilery if youā€™ve never seen the show.

The confusing thing about Molcar is that itā€™s not at all clear how much agency the human drivers have in driving the molcars.

After rewatching all the prestige dramas during quarantine, The Wire stands atop the GOAT mountain. And the fact that itā€™s remastered in HD and 16:9 really helps.

Has no one watched Star Trek Discovery or Picard? I really enjoyed them both. Midway through S3 of Discovery and itā€™s good. Way better than the reboot films.
