I’m kinda into Invincible on Amazon. 3 episodes. comic superhero coming of age teen blah blah blah, but some darker / mature theme stuff also. we shall see.
Comic was decent. It’s highs were a good read and its lows will probably be cut out for time.
I’m not sure why people find it so weird. In the episode where Mother was being treated by the medic droid and they were trying to figure out what was going on, my first thought was, “Ah, ok, she probably has a flying milk snake in there. That’d make the most sense.”
thread, recommend me another show, preferably with flying milk snakes, go
Do I have to watch 50 Marvel movies in order to watch Wandavision?
Lmao. Yes.
fuck
That looks right up my alley but even trying to read a synopsis of the marvel universe up to that point was like fucking Madlibs.
Meanwhile, Rocket and Thor travel to Asgard in 2013;[N 4] the former extracts the Reality Stone from Jane Foster, while the latter gets encouragement from his mother, Frigga, and retrieves his old hammer, Mjolnir. Barton, Romanoff, Nebula, and Rhodes travel to 2014; Nebula and Rhodes go to Morag and steal the Power Stone before Peter Quill can,[N 5] while Barton and Romanoff travel to Vormir. The Soul Stone’s keeper, Red Skull, reveals it can only be acquired by sacrificing a loved one. Romanoff sacrifices herself, allowing Barton to get the Stone. Rhodes and Nebula attempt to return to their own time, but Nebula is incapacitated when her cybernetic implants link with her past self, allowing 2014-Thanos to learn his future self’s success and the Avengers’ attempt to undo it. 2014-Thanos sends 2014-Nebula forward in time to prepare for his arrival.
As one does.
Some of us were able to figure out that Raised by Wolves was super terrible after just one episode and stop watching.
Just the man I was looking for.
We’ve actually been in agreement in the past about what was dumb and why, most memorably with Handmaid’s Tale, so I’m curious what you thought was dumb at that specific point, besides the vinyl onesies. Bear in mind this is well before the flying milk snake.
I don’t know if that requires a spoiler but the cat’s out of the bag: there’s a flying milk snake.
Like if WV is your thing why not watch the other marvel stuff? At least the top 1/2 right?
Ok, that sounds like a thing for me. It’s not a neurotic need to know every detail; more like, it’s my duty to the creators to know some backstory if that’s a thing they think is important.
I don’t even remember the details at this point except that it seemed like poorly written fanfic by haphazardly programmed AI. And do you really need more? Quirky androids in onsies are building things with rocks on a harsh, inhospitable alien planet. There’s just no way that turns into a good show.
The previews for WV had some serious Twilight Zone-Stepford Wives-Pleasantville-Matrix-Dark City-Truman Show vibes, which is not something I picked up from other MCU movies.
Where would I even begin?
It turned into a good show, @goofyballer 's girlfriend was correct.
Actually, I’m still processing the flying milk snake as I literally just finished it minutes ago, but it was very strong for the first 8 episodes.
now Devs was some dumb shit
WV is a superhero show it just takes a while to get there.
Watch Iron Man 1, see if you like it. Despite its pretty dated anti-islamic overtones its the 1st one and still one of the best.
I don’t like a lot of “popular” media (BBT is the best example of course) but still really enjoy the MCU stuff for the most part. Mostly because its just overall quality is off the charts.
If you just wanted a quick and dirty intro to the main characters and plot points:
- Age of Ultron
- Civil War
- Infinity War
- Endgame
Or, just watch the show cold and post a trip report here. It would be interesting to get some hot takes from an MCU newb.
No worries man, here is the minimalist tour of MCU while only watching the A-tier content. I didn’t check Disney+ but I’m pretty sure its all immediately streamable. Also included are three sentence recaps of anything that gets skipped.
Watch: Iron Man (2008)
In the next few movies we meet additional super-characters; to wit:
Thor is the God of Thunder, but in the MCU the gods of Asgard are more like science aliens. He comes to Earth because the weather is superb and meets Natalie Portman. He has an adopted god-brother named Loki who is a trickster god, and they don’t get along.
The Incredible Hulk is a really smart physicist who gets hit with a quasi-nuke and gains the ability/curse of becoming a giant green rage monster whenever anyone yells or goes out without wearing a mask. I don’t know how you could be unaware of this premise unless you’ve been comatose since 1962. Nothing happens in his movie.
Captain America was given a secret formula and superpowers to fight Hitler (a real guy) and also his evil flunky the Red Skull (less real). He has a partner named Bucky who dies. There’s a secret sub-cult in the Nazis called HYDRA and they locate an Asgardian super-weapon. Then Cap gets frozen at the North Pole when trying to save the world, which is less fatal than you’d imagine if you have superpowers.
Now watch: The Avengers (2012)
Then watch: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Then watch Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Then watch Avengers 2 (2015)
Avengers 2 is more like B-tier content but it does feature the origin of the characters from WandaVision so this would be a more important view for you.
There’s an Ant-Man movie. Ant-man can be big or he can be small. There is no third sentence.
Watch: Captain America: Civil War (2016)
There’s a Doctor Strange movie, he starts out being a doctor than learns magic in Tibet, just as most people do. He faces challenges and overcomes them. There is no third sentence.
Watch: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) but only if you like the character
Watch Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Then watch Black Panther (2018) if you liked his character from earlier movies
There’s another hero called Captain Marvel with a complicated backstory that is irrelevant so far to the plot in the MCU so skip it. She can fly. She’s been in space for a long time.
Finally, watch the two-part climax of this epic cycle in:
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
So that’s a 10ish movie cycle which gets you completely to date and only includes movies with great popcorn value. If you really don’t like superheroes or are bored by either of the first couple movies (Iron Man, and Avengers) then drop out - I truly doubt you’d actually like WandaVision as a series either.
Oh snap I got homework. Well I did ask for it after all.
