The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

Promising Young Woman was one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen.

Thought it was great

Oh it is definitely good. Just a brutal watch though.

Carey Mulligan is a generational talent.

Am I missing something or did you guys pay $20 to watch it? No judgment if that’s the case as I’m trying to understand if there are options to watch it that I’m not seeing.

Anyone know if basic Hulu shows ads for this? I watched it ad-free cause I’m not a peasant, but wondering if I should tell my peasant friends to upgrade to watch it. I can’t imagine seeing it with interruptions every 15 mins.

Not sure. I saw it without ads as well. I agree ads would really mess up the flow.

Something old is new again, this is sort of fun.

So I’m finally cutting out cable. But getting one of the Hulu live or Youtube TV packages is basically the same price, so what’s the point? In order to get the few local shows I watch as well as local sports, I went with an amazon recast DVR. I’m pleasantly surprised at the amount of channels and content over the air, and with the recast, I can watch it anywhere. I’m sitting here at work watching days of our lives on my phone for the pure novelty of it.

Yeah we paid the $20. We basically haven’t been spending much money during the pandemic so we’ve agreed to splurge on random stuff.

For those of us in places like NH, we can only get a handful of stations over the air. I switched to Hulu live, which is only a bit cheaper than cable (with no movie channels).

My main reason for streaming service live TV over cable is the complete elimination of cords, cable boxes and whatever other crap you have to use for cable. Also no contracts is great. At one point I was probably saving some money but the streaming services keep increasing prices so who knows at this point.

Too addicted to live sports. My wife is HOT about this Discovery+ launch moving a lot of shows she wants off the cable channels.

… go on.

That was the final straw in our house too. With Discovery+ being a requirement with all the House Flipping, Paranormal, and True Crime streaming content, the actual cable usage was becoming pretty paltry.

Just getting an antenna is a huge life hack if you want to watch Jeopardy and local news and sports.

I hope everyone thinks their spouse is. Otherwise you’re probably not in the right marriage. I don’t think anyone is putting me on the cover of People magazine’s sexiest man alive, but she says she keeps me around for my good lucks (well mostly for my dog caretaker role). We live in the same township as Villanova and she refers to Jay Wright “as the second most handsome man in the township” and I choose to accept this white lie.

But if you really want to watch sports in high def and get all the ESPNs, FS1, NBCsports, local teams on cable (not over the air mostly) then the cord is pretty necessary. We have prime mostly for free shipping, but I’ve found several shows I like and occasionally sign up for something else for a limited time deal to binge something (like end of GoT). My sister-in-law was able to register me on her Disney+ for Mando. My son hooks me up with Picard. We don’t even have a smart TV, just a Chrome dongle for anything we want to stream to the big set from laptop or tablet.
