The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

Holy shit, that ending to this week’s episode of WandaVision. The nerds are going to be creaming their pants speculating about the implications.

Yea the implications are interesting for sure.

Two things bothered me about this episode.

  1. A super powered human has taken over a town using mind control. She is known to have kenetic and energy manipulation abilities, and the army dipshit thinks firing a missile at her will help?? Felt like super lazy cringy writing

  2. A super powered human has taken over a town maybe they should call in a super powered ally to help, you know one of them avengers to help.

Your concerns can be addressed:

  1. They thought they had the element of surprise. And that’s how military guys think.

  2. I’d bet on SWORD having super-powered personnel of their own they can call on, but it might take some time to call them if they are in space. Since Tyler Hayward does not appear to be a character who originated in the comic books, I would not be shocked to find out that he has powers that will come into play. He could even be a version of a character who was renamed to hide from fans that he has powers. Also, government agencies are notoriously defensive about their turf and don’t like to share. There also aren’t quite that many Avengers alive, not old, and currently on Earth. Whose first idea is to call Clint Barton and Sam Wilson?

Look, people do things, it’s a fact. - Master Shake

I watched 15 minutes of Wakandavison and I couldn’t understand what was going on or why there was no Black Panther. Don’t think I’ll follow this show.

I mean, it seems obvious, since they’ve already said publicly that this show ties directly into The Multiverse of Madness.

Just finished season 2 of Gomorrah. Fuck everyone in this show but my boy Prince

Such a good show. There’s a new season I haven’t seen yet but am excited.

To say a little more about that

At the end of the episode, Quicksilver shows up. But it’s not the Quicksilver who died in Age of Ultron; instead it’s Quicksilver from the Fox X-Men movies.

So a few interesting implications.

  1. this is the first mutant to show up in the main MCU continuity. Wanda and Quicksilver from Ultron got their powers from an Infinity Stone. They weren’t mutants because Marvel Studios didn’t have the rights to mutants at the time. Ever since Disney bought Fox, fans have been speculating about how and when mutants would be introduced to the MCU.

  2. Endgame made it clear that MCU is a multiverse. This was also hinted at in Doctor Strange and played for laughs in Far from Home. But so far it appeared that the multiverse consisted of minor variations on the mainline MCU. This episode seems to imply that at least some of the X-Men movies are part of the MCU multiverse. I wouldn’t be surprised if all non-Marvel Studios Marvel movies also end up being part of the multiverse. This would be consistent with some of the things we have heard about casting for the next Spider-Man movie.

I watched the first episode of the The Lady and the Dale. This seems to be getting some buzz but I thought it kind of sucked (first episode anyway). The style is annoying.

Holy crap she looks good for 71

Just started watching Your Honour. Seems a decent enough watch but not really top tier.

I read a theory that each phase 4 title is going to “scramble” the multi-verse in some way, bringing characters and things across, etc. Certainly seems like the Loki show is going to deal with this in some way, possible the other new titles coming will as well.

Then, once everything is all scrambled up (possibly due to what Wanda is doing now), Dr. Strange is going to have to unscramble it all in Multiverse of Madness.

I’m lazy, how much of MoM has been filmed? Any? If not man its gonna be a long plague.

They started some filming in London in November, but had to shut down again in January when the UK tightened up Covid restrictions. Scheduled release is spring 2022, but who knows with Covid, especially when they presumably need to get other films and shows shot and released in order to make the narratives connect.

Mariah Carey pioneered the livestream breakdown when she showed up unannounced to TRL in 2001 to hand out ice cream to the audience.

No. They ~never watch TV like that. Not to say they don’t watch shows. Microdaughter is currently into House, the doctor show from the late 90’s (iirc).

Things are way way more splintered now. I don’t think there can be a Cheers, Freinds, or Seinfeld that just about everyone in a demographic watches.

I disliked the real world. I did watch the very first season, but that’s it. Mostly when I watched MTV it was all music videos. As you know I’m old.

There was an article somewheres…NYTimes maybe?..that claims videogames have replaced music for the majority of young people. Music isn’t what the kids are all about these days for the first time in many generations.

Do they have Mods vs. Rockers-type antagonistic factions? I want to see Fortnite players throw down with some hardcore Minecrafters.
