The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

For Silicon Valley, I want to agree and I do as far as the drop in quality and coherent storyline, but man that show kept delivering LOLs for me all the way.

I’m not a superhero movie/show guy but I am two episodes into The Boys and it’s very good. Posting this for other non-superhero people. It’s definitely worth a look.

Sure, the comedy never stopped. It was funny throughout, all the way to Bighead failing his way to become president of Stanford, but the main storyline could have easily ended much sooner, and there was for sure some padding in the last couple seasons.

I didn’t even finish Silicon Valley– it got so insistent on immediately burning any plot idea it had in order to return to the status quo that it became a chore to watch. I made it through S4 but I was already tired of the repetitiveness at that point.

The problem is Netflix still pads out a ton of its shows then just cancels them all after two seasons anyway.

i enjoyed all the seasons but yea the everything is good oh wait now its shit and we have to do this crazy shit to save the company got old like the 10th time it happened, but I wasn’t really watching for that

A friend of mine described what happened to the show as, basically, “‘Will Pied Piper go under?’ is the new ‘Is Vinny gonna do the movie?’”

i think at the end of the next to last season, it literally closed on the last scene of the finale like they had made it and everything was gucci with new huge office and stuff of their own, and then like first ep of last season right back to it being fucked.

Well part of your problem there is you are watching it for the wrong stuff. We’ve gotten spoiled by series television that depicts lasting character growth from season to season. Shows like Silicon Valley are all about “what will make the boys start over at status quo this time?”

Sometimes the answer was “nothing at all!!!” and I choose to believe that’s funny.

Alternately, after watching 16 hours of the same basic joke being told over and over, I finally admitted to myself that I was sick of it.

Well that’s your second problem. A true fan would laugh at the same joke even when it’s no longer funny.

Damn, what an elegant summary of the problem with fandom culture.

Given it had the hands down, never to rivalled, impossible to comprehend, worst ending of any piece of fiction, in any genre or medium, of all time I’m not super excited about the same people continuing the story.

Dexter ending made GoT look good.

This is indeed really great. Good recommendation.

Awesome. Glad you liked it.

I went in with zero expectations. Cam basically felt like a full-length version of a Black Mirror episode: it wasn’t scary, but it did have interesting things to say about technology and the internet and porn and attention-seeking and whatnot. Lead actress put in a ton of work and did a solid job of it.

It really is a show where as long as you don’t watch the last episode, you’ll walk away thinking wow, a lot of ups and downs, but overall a great show. I’ve gone back and watched the first four seasons many many times. They’re so good and don’t need any further seasons for a payoff and sense of resolution.

So here’s hoping they learned their lessons. I think Michael C Hall has an amazing range and has killed it in role after role throughout his career, so if he says it’s fine to give this a shot, I’m fine giving him a shot.
