Lmao Mike ermentraut from BB plays Clapper
lmao the guy that plays trump is so good. he does trumpās signature nasal inhale thing that no other public speaker does because itās so offputting
I can only compare it to the original show. Without seeing the original show Iād put it in the B+ column with the caveat that Iām probably going to keep watching just because it wasnāt bad.
For a bit of comparison hereās the first scene of the original show. Youāll see some of the characteristics of it, hypersaturation for effect, good use of music, humor, stylization mixed in with some darkness (donāt put the gas away just yetā¦ the American version doesnāt have the guts to kill a kid in the first scene of the show)
comey rule is great. i wish there was more. iām mad theyāre not doing the whole administration
My understanding is that it relies pretty heavily on his book, and he obviously didnāt have much knowledge of day to day operations after he got got.
the story closely followed the reporting and mueller report. i didnt read comeyās book
I didnāt read the book either, but the end credits say that it was based on that novel. Iām sure they filled in some details from other sources and created some other stuff up as a narrative device.
Only in the sense that theyāre following his main story through the time period between the Hillary emails thing and the special counsel appointment. Like I didnāt learn anything new, itās all stuff from nyt/wapo reporting and Mueller report stuff. Itās good! Just watch it
Iāve already watched it. I thought it was just ok. The guy playing Trump gave a good performance, but imo it didnāt reveal anything new and it just seemed kinda overwrought.
Not sure about the first 2 episodes of Fargo. I can see it slowly building into a story I really enjoy, but I can also see it being boring and failing to connect. So far itās the least quirky, least Coen-y, least Hawley-y entry in the Fargo universe. Too early to say if thatās a good or bad thing.
Caught up on Archer and Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Archer has a potentially interesting premise. For a long time, Archer was a man with no character growth who somehow ended up ok, no matter how badly he fucked up. Now, his team has gotten hyper-competent during his coma. With his return, he seems to be dragging them back to the pre-coma status quo. Does he succeed? Does he actually show some growth, leading to a new status quo? Will the writers swerve us and have him still in the coma?
Lower Decks is fun. Itās not going to be high-concept, social commentary. Itās going to disappoint people looking for super-canonical continuity porn. Itās a bunch of name-dropping and references packaged with characters I like and root for.
Man I wanted to like Lovecraft Country but the wife and I had to turn it off after 1/2 hour yeah sorry I just donāt have the patience I guess. Donāt see why Sepinwall loves it.
Good Girls Get High is a masterpiece. Wowwwwww. I havenāt laughed this hard at such a rapid clip in a while.
Man, I havenāt watched Archer in years. I got pretty sick of said status quo after a few seasons, but stuck it out into season 6 or so, I think.
I watched the trailer for season 11 and immediately predicted a line a character said so that was not encouraging me to try again.
Ehh in my opinion Sepinwall hasnāt had his fastball in a while. But then again there are very few TV critics I like much.
Since I made this post I watched The West Wing. All of it.* 156 episodes. AMA.
(*) I skipped a couple of the gimmicky episodes that did not really involve the plot (like there was one that juxtaposed real-life footage with footage from the show).
Is it the single worst, most evil, tv program ever created as so many on this forum would suggest?
But really, best and worst episode?
If worst isnāt the 9/11 or CJās dad one your taste will be questioned!
Iāve lost all sense of time so Iām not sure how long ago the podcast ended (6 mos?), but my wife and I rewatched TWW along with the podcast The West Wing Weekly as it was on.
Best episode is easy, itās Two Cathedrals AINEC.
Worst. Hmmmm. The CJās dad episode is indeed trash, as is the 9/11 episode, but I do include those among the ānon-plotā gimmicks. Without looking at the list the first episode that popped into mind (or is it two episodes?) is when theyāre all at Camp David trying to broker peace in Israel. The whole thing is super hammy and bad (the scene where the Palestinians are praying outside the window while the Israelis and the POTUS celebrate Shabbat is just terrible) and then Leoās heart attack is like something out of a Mexican telenovella.
Thatās the one where he brags to god almighty about deficit reduction right? and 3% growth YoY?
