The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

His movies are a 10/10 for his target audience, which I believe he once said is essentially 12-year-old boys. He knows what he’s doing and he does it about as well as the employee of the month at the waste management facility.

Supposedly it’s really beloved. I asked this question on Twitter over the weekend because I got the impression it’s less a really funny show than a heartwarming show that’s occasionally funny. Which is fine for some people, but I’m way more interested in comedies that are just really funny.

Aside, Michael Bay is a gross creep and open-secret harasser who made a 15-year-old audition for him by doing a bikini dance.

Are you or @Trolly fans of the 1980s animated classic Heavy Metal? I’ve been itching for a rewatch and was thinking fans of Mandy might enjoy a watch party. The path of destruction the orb leaves behind is like the horror of Twilight Zone taken to a Black Mirror extreme.

I’m not even going to link a trailer. If you haven’t seen it, the trailer really will not prepare you for the experience. It’s more of an early horror anthology series with a sequence of vignettes semi-connected by a horrific supernatural force always present to fuck shit up.

Okay but I will link the amazing Sammy Hagar song provided for the soundtrack

You guys were talking about a great but depressing documentary somewhere in the last month. I intended to watch it but now skimming the thread can’t find it. Any guesses?

Dear Zachary maybe?

If so, be prepared

I’ve seen that one. Brutal. This one I think was about a place or situation in the US.

Florida Project?

Never heard of it before. Is it on streaming?

Immigration nation?

American Factory on Netflix made me want to punch someone. Specifically, the factory middlemanagers.

I think this might have been it? Although it obviously isn’t a documentary. I may have misunderstood that.

American Factory I enjoyed.
Immigration Nation I haven’t watched yet. Worth watching?

Ok good I’m glad you dont have to go through it then.

Just a brutal movie.

Shoot, I recalled seeing it on a secondary free service like Tubi or Crackle or something, but it isn’t available for free anymore. We’d have to pay or pirate.

Another film we should add to the Watch Party schedule. Currently free on Tubi.

This is the directorial effort of Keanu Reeves, and what a love letter to martial arts films. He’s not the main character, he’s the bad guy in the background, and what a fight scene at the end. He kicks this kid’s ass like he’s really Neo LOL. But then!!!

Florida Project was a pretty tough watch. Very well done. It really hits home how many people are living that close to the absolute edge. Also fuck Orlando that place sucks.

It is. ICE, for reasons that aren’t fathomable to me, gave the crew inside access so you see them work. That’s contrasted with the people caught up in immigration. Not a groundbreaking documentary but still worth the watch, especially for the people’s stories.

This story that was linked in one of the other threads a couple weeks ago makes it clear that if anything, Florida Project was a bit rose tinted. It’s primarily about a motel right down the road from the one where the movie was filmed, which is also a real hotel and functions more or less exactly as shown, and even gets mentioned in the article.

Florida Project documentary was really notable because it’s shocking how far Willem Dafoe has fallen.
