The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

Yeah I tried Risky’s approach (which I greatly appreciate him posting) but it didn’t work. I have HBOMax on my phone so I guess I can watch something there until Roku and HBO sort out their differences. I really want to watch I’ll Be Gone in the Dark.

You can do that anyway. It’s half the reason to post here.

I am able to watch HBO on Roku. I can’t remember the process but you can Google it. I think I made an HBO Max account (free with Uverse) and then was able to sign into the regular/legacy HBO Roku app using those credentials. Something like that anyway.

Sorry to hear that for both of y’all.

The streaming platform wars are kind of lol. Remember when Firesticks were in a war with Google and they removed the YouTube app? Lol. You could still access the exact same thing via Silk, which was then preprogrammed with YouTube as the default homepage with an interface indistinguishable from the YouTube app. It made the whole thing seem so silly to me. Why are my friends fighting? :sob:

It’s most of the reason to post here because there’s so much of your bad taste itt.

Do you get a particular error message? I’m a little confused why your login won’t work with the legacy app in a TV. I believe you when you say it doesn’t work, but I can’t escape the possibility of a user error :face_with_monocle:

Speaking of HBO Max, my wife and I watched An American Pickle a couple weeks ago.

It’s good, but not all that memorable. It is not an uproarious Seth Rogen comedy like people might expect. It is certainly funny, but it veers away from the path that it looks like it is going to take (Rogen, btw, has said that that’s what he does with his movies).

The one part I thought was great - and I don’t think this is really a spoiler, since the trailer establishes what happens - is how the scientists explain how the guy was able to survive for 100 years in pickle brine. I actually said to my wife (jokingly) right before the explanation, “This is so fake, there’s no way someone could survive that - he at the very least would have drowned.”

Then the scientists gave an amazing explanation. I lol’ed.

Definitely could be user error, but when I was going through the steps, the correct cable/internet provider was not listed as an option. So I clicked on the “provider not listed?” link and it took me here.

So I dunno. I can’t log in in my normal way because Xfinity isn’t listed as an option to log in through the HBO app on Roku.

With all this said, we’re using my in-laws account anyway so I can’t complain too much

Westworld season 3 writer and producer Denise Thé will serve as showrunner on the series.

HYPE. This was one of my favorite Crichton books. I loved it more than Jurassic Park, but holy shit was that movie awful. This has a chance to be epic and amazing, and I wouldn’t mind at all if they took liberties to extend it into a multi-season arc that goes well beyond the novel’s ending.

That sounds cool, I loved that book as a kid and enjoyed the movie too. Not too excited to have a Westworld person running the show though.

Watched Knives Out last night on Prime. Really entertaining movie that wasn’t above making fun of itself and they pulled it off really well. Highly recommended.

This was great! Jolt cola appearance and Alexandra Daddario in the same movie is a winning combination.

Yep this is a great and fun movie. Smiled through whole thing.

If you like Knives Out and/or OG Perry Mason, you should check out Columbo. Apparently some of the episodes are available on Peacock. The rights may be complicated because the series was on NBC and ABC over the years.

fuuuuuuuuck, this sounds great but it’s only on Shudder. I might have to sign up for a free trial subscription.

I liked reading Congo and Sphere as a teenager, I don’t know if they would hold up as an adult, but they were fun rides. Movie adaptations were terrible, but I can imagine a competent sci-fi/horror director could revisit the material and make something great.

Description makes it sound like a Mandy clone so obviously I’m watching it

Knives Out was a lot of fun with an incredibly entertaining cast.

Cant say I approve of the decision to have Craig do his Colonel Sanders voice, but that’s really the only main gripe I have with the movie.
