I agree that Dark is generally a very detailed plot with some somewhat thinly developed characters, and lacking in themes. I wouldn’t say it is totally “about nothing”. At a superficial level it certainly has a “BEWARE OF SCIENCE GONE TOO FAR!” vibe a la 19th century classic scifi. More interestingly I think it can also be read as a striking portrayal of how people can be trapped in cycles of behavior driven by their family heritage. I tend to agree that this all takes a back seat to the elaborate puzzle plot.

Yeah, I did almost say except for maybe a halfhearted anti-nuclear thing, but even halfhearted seemed strong.

I guess you’re right about the family thing. I haven’t seen it in the text in quite that way at the moment, but it makes sense when you say it. One of my bugbears is how often the central theme of fiction is decently well off people and their boring relationships and psychodramas, so I have a tendency to regard that as ‘nothing’ when it is at least ‘something’. It’s my own life, after all.

Wife and I enjoyed Palm Springs, thanks for the rec.

Finished season 5 of peaky blinders, it’s not deep and fairly predictable but goddamn I love it.
Sad I gotta wait till 2021 at least for next season

I’m on episode four. Agree, this is a fantastic documentary. I’m glad it’s so recent, too. Like you said, it helps me see what modern high schoolers experience and helps me reflect on my years in HS with a new perspective.

Damn right about the price. I felt the same way about paying for a month of Disney+. I’d have paid $8 for the one show.

I think Upgrade is also on Starz which is a movie well worth watching.

And Ash v Evil Dead is a really fun stupid bloodbath of a show. Highly recommended

Upgrade surprised me. I thought well this looks like dumb fun, but it was great. Some neat camerawork too, like how in fight sequences, instead of a static shot, the camera will sometimes follow the motion of the main character as he gets slammed into the ground and bounces back up.

Old Guard.

Meh I don’t really like these types of movies and it was kinda silly/cheesy but I was entertained so can’t complain

Taste The Nation with Padma is really good. Probably helps that I have the biggest crush in the world on her.
