The Television Streaming Thread: Now With Felonies

House of Cards season 5 rewatch was excellent. I saw season 6 without much rewatch given it came out so soon after Kevin Spacey proved he was as awful as Francis, but watching season 5 anew and seeing Claire as the main character makes the show great again.

I am now in season six and am wondering if watching seasons 5-6 as their own entity will make them as awesome an arc as seasons 1-2.

I watched the first episode of the final season and gave up. I heard itā€™s just beyond awful. I made it to midway of S3 on my last rewatch before I capitulated ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Yer missing out bud. Shit is happening by s6e3 that has me on the edge of my seat. You have to watch just season 5-6 and see it only as Claireā€™s story. Forget about Frankā€™s seasons.

I missed a bunch of details the first time and forgot most of the season 6 arc, I think because it was just so surreal seeing Claire as president so soon after Hillary lost.

I wonder if some uber fan has made a fanedit of the series so it focuses on her from the beginning.

Iā€™ll give it another try. Finishing a rewatch of the Americans and Breaking Bad.

HBO Max taking Gone with the Wind off their platform.

Iā€™ve never seen it but read a paragraph that it depicts slavery and the confederacy in a positive light. Is this true?

Its an interesting decision. Its not the worst depiction ever but it certainly portrays black people as children who need their big white protectors at all costs before and after slavery.

This is really stupid. Itā€™s an artifact of its time with historical significance. Are we banning everything we now find offensive? That will be a really long list.

I donā€™t think itā€™s banned you just canā€™t watch it on that platform.

All I remember about Gone With The Wind is hating it vehemently when I saw it in HS for a class. And Scarlet drove me insane.

How do you feel about Song of the South or Birth of a Nation?

Gone With the Wind has only been removed temporarily. When it returns, it will include a discussion of its historical context.

This is reasonable.

Both very important films in a historical context. Iā€™ve seen both.

Oddly, Iā€™ve never seen Gone With the Wind. I probably should, especially since I live near Margaret Mitchellā€™s house. Iā€™ve also never been to the MLK center, which is a great shame of my life.

Seriously? this is such mealy mouthed bullshit. Take it down because itā€™s super racist and valorizes white supremacist traitors or leave it up because white supremacists buy stuff you sell too.
Putting up a minute in front for everybody to fast forward through about look how racist we used to be is just auto-erotic virtue signalling.
And historically important my ass. Triuph of the will was important from a historic and artistic perspective, i donā€™t see anyone clamoring for that one to be on the air.

This is a really bad take. Of course triumph of the will should be available.

You are confusing a historical document with a modern one. If someone tried to make gone with the wind now outrage is justified. Trying to ban the original is insane as itā€™s a product of its time.

This logic will have you banning 99% of all movies, art, novels, tv etc.

Im not saying ban it, Iā€™m ok with it being available, same as eg merchant if Venice, Michelangeloā€™s Moses etc. its good to kbow where we come fromā€¦ Also ok with it sat on the shelf next to song of the south.
What irks me is this move by hbo smacks of suits figuring out hey this blm is popular atm how can we use it to get some good press.

On one hand, yeah, GWTW probably does do a little of that Hollywood thing where they portray slavery in a more idyllic and sanitized way than we would like. I get it.

On the other hand, it directly led to the breaking of the Academy color barrier courtesy of Hattie McDaniel.

lol remember what a massive fakeout this was?
