The Sumo Thread

Sumo season is upon us. The Yokozuna will be absent. Takakeisho will be fighting for his sumo life. Let the games begin.

Takakeisho has just pulled out of the basho after two hapless days, which means his Ozeki comeback, which wasn’t going to happen anyway, is kaput, and he’s likely headed for an early retirement.

takakeisho is washed

OK, I slept on the last baso and I haven’t caught up with this one yet, need to binge watch some sumo stat.

Takerufuji being back and 4-0 so far in Juryo seems like a good thing

Onosato is now in a position to become the first Ozeki without his hair fully grown in.

Takayasu looks better than he has in a long time

Takayasu benefits from having dropped to the bottom of the banzuke, so for the most part he’s been facing lower-ranked opponents. Now that he’s in the yusho mix he’ll begin facing opponents who are at the top and in the hunt, so we’ll see what he really has in him.

Takakeisho has retired. Will miss the feisty rolly-polly

Damn, 'Keisho is/was my boy! Really wanted to see one more out of the guy, I love his dirt-simple approach to sumo.

As one Ozeki departs, a new one enters.

Congrats to Onosato on both his second yusho and imminent Ozeki promotion.

just saw day 12, the wakatakakage/onosato match was amazing

also wow, Ura finally having a good basho, he’s really put together an impressive string of wins here in the last few days

A certain someone was disappointed with his nephew’s performance

Aw man, seems like Aoiyama had such a long career.

He did. 13 years. Which is an eternity as a rikishi.

Unfortunate slag!
