For any late night degenerates like me, the MidnightSumo channel on Twitch is fantastic for watching the bashos
Now that the election is out of the way, time to focus on the more important stuff, like sumo.
Kyushu basho is here. Terunofuji is kyujo. Takakeisho is retired. Start of the Onosho era? How many katasukashi moves will Midorifuji unleash this basho? Could THIS be the basho that Takayasu finally gets it done?
Let the sumo games begin!
Oh man, I haven’t been following the sumo bc of politics bullshit. Time to jump back in.
1 and counting.
Takakeisho looks like the weight of the world has been lifted off his shoulders in retirement.

my son (20 yo) described Tamawashi (who is almost exactly 9 years younger than me) as “decrepit”
That’s an odd description given that he just turned 40, just earned a kachikoshi, and still has a better build than many of his fellow rikishi 10+ years younger than him.
I am 95% sure he was just trying to needle me specifically
Nobody disrespects my boy Tamawashi!
Not fully caught up with the tournament yet, but 100% on board the Hoshoryu hype train.
Hoshoryu looks unstoppable, but I want to see Kotozakura take the yusho down.
Way to go Kotozakura!
And with both Ozeki having turned in a stellar performance, they are officially on the Tsuna rope watch for Hatsu In January.
“A supreme auspicious moment” hell yeah I’m in
With Hatsu Basho upon us this Sunday, here’s a little morning training session from Isegahama-beya to get the sumo juices flowing:
Hatsu Basho is upon us. If Kotozakura or Hoshoryu win they will be the next Yokozuna. But Terunofuji is back to play the roll of gatekeeper.
Let the games begin!
So I’m in my local Ohio dive bar and these two dudes start talking about the January basho out of nowhere. Apparently the Netflix show Sanctuary got them interested in sumo.
BOLD PREDICTION: Tobizaru goes 13-2
Terunofuji’s gone kyujo. Could be the end of the line for him. Wouldn’t be surprised to hear an intai announcement in the near future.
But it looks like his replacement and fellow Mongolian is finally ready to step up and take over the rope.
yeah this seemed like it was pretty inevitable, the JSA must have known it was coming too, hence all the hype about getting another yokazuna promoted
Yeah, once he couldn’t make it through Hatsu the writing was on the wall. And he was already talking about his post-sumo plans.
He was a great Yokozuna, especially given what he went through to get there.
