I thought it was finally infrastructure week but apparently the House is in recess until September 20? lol
I think itās just that he couldnāt prevent it from passing because of the pressure the people on Joe Manchinās donor call put on GOP senators, so now heās joining the winning side to save face.
I mean the lobbying money alone that will be spent on securing contracts stemming from this bipartisan bill is going to be crazy.
Bipartisan compromise is not a goal in and of itself. Like, literally nobody talks about this stuff in terms of ādoes this bill do good thingsā, itās always in the context of political wins. A bunch of liberals are smugly celebrating today passing a bill thatās like 1/2 the size of the already compromised offer that Biden originally came out with.
They passed it because they think, and might be right, think they can use it to get cinema to not do the reconciliation bill. And then even if it passes they will take credit for anything in the reconciliation bill that helps their state or district
Republicans know there is zero chance the filibuster is getting nuked. Manchin and cinema are a locked no
Being the party of 100% obstruction has backfired for Republicans in the past. Mitch maybe doesnāt want to press his luck too far this time.
Itās just the super right wing Dems who are celebrating because they can campaign on it in their state and probably locks them in to win
I appreciate Rivermanās mea culpa, but the following people still owe Schumer an apology.

counterpoint: it all worked out for the party of obstruction as mitch intended.
I stand by my post even though the bill got more votes than the test vote I mocked. Iām not going to praise Chuck until we see what Nancy has planned next month but itās nice to see that a bill actually did pass the Senate with votes from both parties.
If you actually read my post I say itās possibleā¦ And the very next post I said Schumer knows whatās up.
Like yeah I was doubtful but I also thought it was a possibility. Last two weeks or so it was pretty clear the moderate republicans were actually trying for a deal. When that guy was on fox arguing with ingrahm it seemed like a deal was going to get done
Also I donāt think this is a good thing for Dems. Itās going to give cinema and manchin even more incentive to chop the reconciliation bill up, and maybe not even pass it. Even worse it gives them the narrative that bipartisanship is Alive and weāll.
Lol at thinking this bill is a Dem victory.
Luckily the squad In the house isnāt going to let manchin and cinema chop it up too much. Finally they have leverage because both want the bipartisan bill to pass badly.
If this was really good for Dems it wouldnāt have passed with 70 votes
Yeah I want a bill that has 0 votes from Rs
Not calling you out, honestly, but werenāt you also gonna complain if this bill didnāt happen (a la Lucy and the football?)?
No. I think it sucks they wasted so much time on it but as I said in my post manchin and cinema got the Dems by the balls so not much they can do.
Schumer owes me a bunch of apologies.
Iām going to look on the bright side. Hopefully a good reconciliation bill passed and we get 4 trillion in infrastructure. A nice going away present before republicans have one party rule
Iām happy the bill passed. Iām not keen on handing out medals to establishment Dems because of it. The bill itself is better than nothing but totally inadequate (very on brand for Schumer and company) and the US is still on trajectory for undemocratic fascist rule. Congrats though.
