You mean the SALT tax repeal?
I can’t think of another policy that in the current 1.6T draft BBB that manchin/sinema want to have passed. (And they don’t seem to care about SALT either)
Well when they ratfuck progressives on BBB at least I can start rooting for a winning political
team for once.
The legislation will deliver $550 billion of new federal investments in America’s infrastructure over five years, including money for roads, bridges, mass transit, rail, airports, ports and waterways.
We will see how much of that money ends actually in infrastructure and not as bribes in somebodys pocket.
Is there a rough plan what they gonna start first? Or are they now just start thinking about what to (re-) build with the money?
There is no reason for the so-called moderates to hold up the bigger bill unless they plan to tank it. This is game theory 101. They’re going to get lucy footballed yet again and frankly there’s nothing to do but laugh.
The pro play would be to just continue to strip provisions from the bill such that the progressives in the House vote no.
I don’t think they plan to tank it completely, but will now steamroll their unpopular positions into the final bill.
Baseline now is 0% chance of paid leave, super high cap on SALT deductions and the prescription drug provisions being so weak that they are practically meaningless. Think Jayapal is well aware of this and walking in with eyes wide open.
FoxNews triple play:
- “Swamp”, “jam through”, “massive”
- printing out all the zeros in $1.2T
- feature picture of cackling communist witch Nancy Pelosi
And sometimes if you look hard enough you can also find a reasonable and objective headline for the same story!
I haven’t really been paying attention, can someone fill me in?
basically i’ve put together:
-
progressives still said no to voting on BIF until BBB is passed by the senate
-
Nancy found 13 republicans willing to vote for BIF, and they got it done
2.5) a bunch of maga tough guy posturing from GOP reps who are extremely furious about RINOs helping nancy
- BBB is now completely sunk since there’s zero reason for Manchin/Sinema to support it anymore
did I miss anything?
I mean the progressive know it’s dead. They tried
I think they came to the conclusion it was dead either way and it was better to pass something before we head into the end of democracy.
This is false. It’s not completely sunk. It’s going to be neutered, but something is likely going to pass. It’ll be the Obamacare of build back better bills. Manchin and Cinema will get new boats.
If the Republicans can somehow get rid of Trump, they’re in an incredible position now. Any kind of reasonable (relative to Trump) candidate is going to sweep the suburban vote. With the structural advantages the Democrats refuse to address, they could dominate government for a generation, even without cheating.
At this point they deserve to win.
So do we want Trump to be the nominee in '24 or don’t we?
If they don’t pass BBB who cares? Working within the system is out, start working on something more productive link a general strike. Non violent resistant of anything system and make sure to laugh in the face of any party operatives who call for support or votes.
You should support and vote for the Democratic Party. They are a force for good and deserve your support. Recent events only further prove that.
Lmao Lololol. Yeah they don’t pass a decent BBB and I won’t vote for an incumbent dem outside of the handful of progressive house members that voted no. I will consider supporting a progressive challenger to Biden in a ‘24 primary should one emerge. Enough is enough
A staunchly progressive president won’t move Manchin further to the left than he already has gone.
It’s the same pattern my whole life, the right pushes the Overton Window farther and farther into absurdity. DeSantis or literally anyone is now a “reasonable” candidate. We’re never rolling back the fascist insanity of W Bush’s security state, that has been totally normalized, to say nothing of Reaganism.
What the hell happened with the 13 GOP yes votes?
