Again, I think this SALT thing reflects a realignment of the parties. The Democrats are trying to gobble up rich, educated suburbanites alienated by Trumpism. It’s not normal for rich, educated people to be represented politically by the nominally left-wing party. The party has to reflect their class interest. As soon as there’s not a GODDAMN CHEETO IN THE WHITE HOUSE anymore you discover that what they really vote based on is property taxes.
At the moment the two parties are a virtual dead heat on economic policy, we’re probably one or two cycles away from the GOP being noticeably more left-wing economically.

The SALT thing does not reflect a realignment of the parties. It reflects naked corruption.
To use $80k in salt deductions that means you’re paying $80,000 a year in property taxes and state and local taxes. In NY/CA, that means owning a $1 million house plus having roughly a $600,000 income. That’s 1% territory.
