I was confused about why a supposedly “bipartisan” group would be giving any awards to Trump so I checked their website. They do appear to be a legitimately bipartisan group of black “mayors, city, county and state officials, prosecutors and defense attorneys, political strategists, community leaders, activists, police chiefs and other law enforcement executives” focused on criminal justice reform. So I guess I could see how they might want to acknowledge this administration’s work on that issue and encourage them to continue making progress.
The funny thing is that there is no mention on the website of Trump, his speech, or his “Bipartisan Justice Award”. Despite what the tweet implies, the “Presidential Justice Forum” isn’t about him. It’s primarily about the 10 Democratic presidential candidates who are scheduled to speak over the next 2 days. Those 10 Democratic candidates are pictured prominently on the home page under “Confirmed Speakers for the 2019 Second Step Presidential Justice Forum!” But no sign of Trump. I’d like to think this is deliberate, but who knows.
Interestingly, Harris pulled out of the forum earlier today, specifically citing the award being given to Trump:

He definitely wants to destroy the whistleblowers life, allegedly.
