The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: retweets WHITE POWER, condemns Black Lives Matter, regrets criminal justice reform

“You’re either a coward unwilling to stand up to an ex-KGB goon, or you’re complicit… That’s worse than useless.”

I believe that last line deserves to be our new thread title.

This is exactly what it is.

And they don’t blame Trump. They blame the liberals who stopped him.

this will get your approval to rise bigly I’m sure

I am not possessive about such things. Would you like to change it back? Could we get a shorter version of the White Power title?

Being friends with you was fun while it lasted lol.

I doubt he’ll be successfully removed, but this absolutely needs to happen. He’s the single biggest threat to national security in this country.

Is this actually backed by leadership though, namely Pelosi? Last time we had resolutions for a long time before Pelosi actually moved it forward right?

On this we are in total agreement. The precedent is going to be important, and after we win in November things can’t go back to normal. We have to actually reestablish the rule of law in Washington, and for that to happen a LOT of people are going to need to see the inside of cells.

The higher up the social order you climb the worse I think the punishments in the CJ system should be IMO. The moral hazard that rich people endlessly like to talk about when it comes to the responsibilities of normal citizens needs to return to their world… and honestly that would mean a lot of prison time for a lot of people in 2020. My guess is that you could easily charge everyone who was still working in the WH the day the Ukraine tapes leaked with 10+ years worth of felonies at a minimum.

In the past we’ve opted for turning the page as a country any time we do something bad, and all that garbage we’ve swept under the rug has been slowly poisoning us. It’s ridiculous that in the same time period we imprisoned more people than any other country in history we simultaneously ended the rule of law for anyone with power.

This is undeniably true, but if it means their enthusiasm is down and fewer will come out to vote in 2020, that’s a win.

I haven’t been following this very closely, but Nadler went from ‘waste of time’ to ‘maybe we’ll impeach him’ in record time so it’s possible leadership is open to it. His laundry list is like 100 offenses long that probably would have gotten any other AG removed after a handful of them. He 1000% should be in jail after this.

I think we can all agree he should be in jail, honestly he has a much better chance of prison time than Trump once all is said and done I think.

Yep, that’s the way the world works. The Lincoln folks decided to work w/ Ds as they correctly realized the central issue of our times is that a shockingly corrupt and deranged orange man was trying to expand and entrench a white supremacist fascist government. So let’s focus on that 24/7 in an monumentally consequential election year… Good for the country, good for the world and good for getting their POV a seat at the table if Biden wins.

Anyway, looking forward to Glenn’s article next week about how Ds are disgusting for trying to incite a red scare by running w/ this “fake news” Russian bounty story.

I think I’ll donate this sippy cup to the Trump campaign.

The key precedent is Trump was elected to his position, therefore there is a ‘political will’ to save him. Barr wasn’t elected to anything and is largely responsible for every single abuse of power and obstruction of justice related to the presidency since he’s gotten there. These aren’t Trump’s ideas, they’re Barr’s. Trump was probably like, ‘Can you do that?’. Barr’s like, ‘Who’s gonna check us, boo?’

If Congress lets an official who wasn’t elected run the office like this, the precedents it sets are off the charts. That’s the thing about the rule of law. I heard a quote from one of the presidential historians last week (I think) that said the rule of law wasn’t invented for the people, it was invented for those in power. Keeping power in some kind of check is essential and there should be zero political will to keep Barr in power. The problem is a lot of those a-holes in the Senate absolutely love all these ideas he’s had.

Remember, the GOP Senate punted on Trump’s malfeasance while admitting it in almost enough instances to remove him saying, ‘it’s an election year, we need to leave it up to the people’. That same justification doesn’t work for Barr.

The last AG who did anything similar to what he’s done went to jail (but don’t get your hopes up).

That’s the question, right? Does this mean depressed turnout, or does this mean increased enthusiasm to reclaim victory?

Depends on whether Trump would give him a blanket pardon on the way out.

I’m actually on the fence about this. Part of me thinks Trump pardons anyone and everyone for anything and everything, part of me thinks he won’t give a shit about what happens to anyone else if he loses.
