I’m curious to look back on 2016 in another few years. I feel like our consensus may be that he was a racist button smasher who recognized the racism played well, which will explain the primary.

I think his 2016 general election victory is going to largely come to be blamed on the paradox that the dumber and crazier things he said, the less our institutions took him seriously. The media, Comey, Dems, etc. Many decisions were made assuming he’d lose.

Much of the Trump rungood has been an institutional failure to react well to blatant stupidity and criminality carried out in broad daylight, simply because it was in broad daylight.

Meanwhile he locked up his base with the racism and Fox News propaganda, and thus didn’t need to function within the realm of reality with his base.

I don’t think this is all… The hate of HRC was way underestimated and the comical errors the eDems made allowed for a TV personality to say “What have you got to lose”

Much like this election I believe anyone could have ran against HRC and won (anyone who was not a hated American) and that Bernie would also be far ahead at this point, maybe further.

The turning point of this years election was Covid-19 V TheOlds…take one for the team really floored the GOP with the olds and adding in that the colleges and Universitys folks went out partying like it was a normal summer also added extra jealousy.

That 1 line managed to make them see just what’s what.

Lol. Per 538, Biden has a better chance of winning Texas, Kansas, Mississippi, Indiana, Louisiana, Nebraska’s FIRST congressional district, Missouri, Montana, and Alaska then Trump does of winning New Mexico.

I think this is all correct but misses one key thing - the Republican rush to change gears from attacking Trump to supporting Trump. The institutional failures to stop him from the left are complimented by institutional support of him from the right. A reckoning is also needed on that side.
