The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: Old man yells at cloud, presidential edition.

FUCK YEAH! FUCK YEAH!

I remember reading about this in Freakonomics years ago, they did a study of the patterns that names tend to follow, and how names that are popular with the toffs end up being adopted by the plebs and then gradually fall out of favour in a perpetual cycle (if I recall their thesis correctly, it’s been a while since I read it).

Standard SNL. Take a good premise and beat it till there’s nothing left

Not just all of that, but when she feigned outrage she was so good that you kind of caught yourself wondering if she was actually legitimately offended.

Yes, this is correct. Having recently had 2 girls, I did a fair bit of reading on the subject.

There is a guy on twitter constantly replying to Ivanka tweets with “you’ll never attend the MET ball again,” I laugh every time.

I mean, people other than Joe’s campaign are going to be running ads as well and those might be negative

This article touches on it a little bit. I’m sure there was stuff that they don’t go into here, but it seems like the timeline goes:

  1. Kristen Stewart is flying to New York to host SNL. McCarthy is also flying there for other business, and when they bump into each other, McCarthy pitches her on a monologue idea (not involving Spicer, just a random idea for Stewart’s monologue).

  2. Stewart mentions the monologue idea when she gets to SNL, and gives McCarthy credit.

  3. The reference to McCarthy triggers the notion within the staff that she might make a good Spicer, so one of the staff members who knew McCarthy reached out to see if she’d be interested.

While in law school, McEnany appeared on CNN as a paid commentator. She supported Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. However, in early 2015, before becoming a Trump supporter, McEnany was highly critical of him, declaring on CNN and Fox Business that “Donald Trump has shown himself to be a showman” and it was “unfortunate” and “inauthentic” to call him a Republican. McEnany called his comments about Mexican immigrants “racist”. She began supporting Trump after receiving advice over cocktails from Michael Marcantonio, a fellow summer associate at a law firm and a Democrat. He told her that “Donald Trump is going to be your nominee,” and if “a smart, young, blond Harvard graduate” wanted “to get on television and have a career as a political pundit, you would be wise to be an early backer.” According to The Guardian, she took this advice.

Awesome - thanks for digging that up.

I’ve seen “positive” Biden ads which basically say “unlike the dumbass sociopath in office now, I actually give a damn about COVID and your healthcare, and will do something about it.”

That’s as negative as he needs to get regardless. Leave the “Yes, he deserves to die and I hope he burns in hell” sentiment to the PACs.
