As I’ve said, I don’t think sedition should be a crime. And I think the US government coming down hard on everyone who entered the building as either a traitor or part of a conspiracy is dangerous and fascist itself.
But, like, Trump and the Chief of Capital Police and Guilliani and everyone who intentionally brought this on or stepped aside knowing full well that stuff like “hang Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi” was on the itinerary has some complicity in all the crimes, including the deaths.

“We murdered enough senators that the electoral vote couldn’t be certified” just seems like an unnecessary step to Trump maintaining power beyond Jan 20.
The military/police can do a coup where tanks roll in and they arrest the civilian leadership or they can support a coup where they stand aside and let civilians oust the government.

If we can’t protect the inauguration from the maga chuds (assuming the law enforcement establishment wants to) then we are done. And if the LE establishment doesn’t want to, we are done. Might as well hold the thing and round up some domestic terrorists as a side benefit.

Why? DC wasn’t responsible for protecting the capitol, and I do not believe can even get involved without being requested?

Perpetual war and the blending of the national guard with the military and the increasing federal control of the national guard is a problem. Police can’t be trusted here and regular military should not be doing domestic crowd control. But, with national guard units just flowing in and out of regular duty constantly, I don’t know if it’s really a different thing.

I don’t know what to do. “Do nothing” is also an option, but even me feels uneasy letting Trump walk away.
Yeah I don’t have a lot of faith in the future viability of the US. But I don’t think canceling the inauguration is the answer. If we can’t pull that off safely it just means it’s already over.

I have faith in the Secret Service shooting to kill at least if it becomes necessary to avoid being overrrun. I think holding the inauguration sends an important message - just like congress finishing the certification vote that night.
