The Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Episode XIV: T-minus 97 Hours

Tl;dr. Somebody was pozzed in the congressional lockdown room. Republican congress members refused masks. They should have thrown them out and into the maga crowd for that and see if they would have passed the maga purity test.

All it took was one person to get shot in the neck to take the steam out of the revolutionary cosplayers.

Problem is they would have joined the maga crowd and told them where everyone was hiding.

Yeah you have to wonder if cops had fired shots in the alcove while Sticknick was being beaten to death, maybe it slows things down. But conveniently they weren’t even armed.

Disagree. The person being shot in the neck certainly gave the crowd in that hallway some second thoughts, but a fully armed SWAT team showing up 5 seconds later was what actually subdued them. And that only affected a very small group of the protestors. Things were still out of control elsewhere in the Capitol.

Yeah I think w/o the swat team they regroup. But still - no one wanted to get shot at that doorway. You’d have to have like a dozen people willing to die to storm it. I don’t think they had that.

Also it’s not 100% clear to me what the backup team was armed with. In some shots it looks like tear gas launchers? Did any have real weapons?

Looking at everything that happened in the Capitol, it’s pretty amazing the amount of restraint the cops showed in using lethal force against people they don’t want to kill. Which just goes to show how much cops love to kill people of color.

Because they can’t bring themselves to believe white people would actually kill, whereas they’re sure black people are going to torture them to death and eat their entrails.

For the black cops probably the exact opposite.

A good read on Trump as “pre fascist”, the Republican Party, and the future.

Cliffs: Trump wasn’t fascist because he never could look beyond the mirror but all the pieces are in place to move towards a fascist future

This would be much better news. The bizarre thing to me is that the business and financial interests are the ones trying to save democracy, rather than the vaunted norms and institutions. I don’t know much about fascism or its history, but I seem to recall a lot of talk about corporations and industry being all in. These business interests are controlling the conversation, the agenda, and the politicians. This situation is entrenching their power even further, and they will come for their pound of flesh from Biden and Congressional Democrats.

A point against this pessimism is that the mainstream corporations are all against racism and discrimination, and so maybe they’re making baby steps towards a more just society.

But the fact that it took a coup attempt to get them to stop donating to fascist, lying pieces of shit is telling.

i love me some garry once in awhile, but when even an old pessimist like him become so naive, i think we’re past finding real solutions.

Not only did the brass not want to stop the stop the steal insurrection, I’m having a hard time imagining that the cops, peer to peer, weren’t all telling each other that they were not to go hard at people. It probably was to the point that they felt like going against the Trumpiots would be betraying their “brothers”.

More importantly, grant DC statehood and have their police be in charge of such matters

I think it’s probably a reflection of actually a better populace and how business is a bit different. Coal companies or something like that could not give a shit. But, a lot of companies depend on some kind of retail interaction with the public and they don’t want to be a pariah. It’s best not to get boycotted by anyone, but liberals are better at boycotting/avoiding than Trumpiots.

when the officer was dragged from the entrance and beat to death on the steps, can only imagine what the other officers in the door were thinking. it’s amazing no guns were drawn by capitol police. there’s something in the protocol or orders that prevented them.

if the mob pointed a gun at the hallway, there would be dozens shot.

You’d be forgiven for missing that this is not from this weekend. It was from Trump’s test run in April.

And I’m just imagining what would have happened this weekend if one of these supporters had gotten shot

instead of one of these.

Bonus:

Some speakers at Thursday’s event questioned the deadliness of COVID-19, which has so far killed more than 63,000 people in the US.

Remember the video of the black lady cop defending herself by punching a trumper in the face - great punch by the way.

2 charged.

Turns out trumpers teenage daughter - who had been kicked out of home for joining BLM protests - recognised her mum, uncle and aunt and put names to faces.

The next day, after Therese texted saying she was home, Helena simply responded, “how’s your nose.”
