The Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Episode XIV: T-minus 97 Hours

The other issue we have is Biden is wholly not up to the task of combating this. He clearly doesn’t recognize the seriousness of the situation. Sitting in a circle and singing kumbaya is not going to solve it.

The sad truth is we have a literal terrorist/insurgent group in our country right now. Maybe we always have but it has not always numbered millions of heavily armed lunatics. It’s a hard truth to swallow but ignoring it is part of how we got here.

I know. I get it. I’m just trying to learn why. What is it that they’re so scared of? I mean, I’m with them on fearing the corporate elite. The difference is, I think corporations are running the government, so if I ever planned take over anything, the main purpose would be to take back their ill gotten gains from the people. I personally think this should be accomplished peacefully through massively taxing giant corporations and the wealthiest 1%-3%. I don’t get the fascination with the government. I’ll read up more on it

In hindsight pretty much the entire rw apparatus making Kyle Rittenhouse and the Mansion Gun Nuts out as heros and literally have them speak at the fucking RNC might have been a bit of a hint of things to come.

On the one hand it feels like it failed and now everyone knows and the jig is up, but on the other hand the cops, the boss cops who decided how to respond, almost certainly knew on January 5th. Why is them knowing now going to help on January 20th?

Will the governors and congressmembers be able to bring the national guard?

And then maybe it happens a month later.

Like can anybody put forth a viable path forward here for the country? Other than pie in the sky stuff about these people slinking back under rocks, how does the country move forward?

I feel less stupid about not knowing who Cersei Lannister was.

I think a lot of you are spending way too much time worrying about a successful coup, which seems extremely unlikely, and not enough time considering what will be done in the name of preventing one. Plus of course all the random violence from the insurrectionists with their never-gonna-work plans.

How do you take a city? The police.

So yes, they absolutely take the cities.

Grunching.

Only if he’s investigated, charged, and the details recorded.

Marcos shipped off to Guam with his billions. There was no reckoning and his kids are still power players.

Hardball would be starting impeachment proceedings of Thomas based on this. It won’t happen, but it should happen.

You are asking for rational explanations for people who are not rational. Their views are incoherent and divorced from reality.

A certain subset of white people think the government is out to steal their birthright which they see as essentially white America.

That’s the entire thing driving MAGA. Trump took white nationalism and white grievance politics mainstream. So instead of arming yourself to the teeth in some cabin you can now just ransack the capitol and post about it on twitter and fb in real time without fearing any consequence. He connected these people. He emboldened these people. He radicalized these people. We joke about Yall Queda but it’s a legitimate threat.

Huh? You don’t know this. He has flat out called them terrorists and said that what happened was an insurrection. He’s said Trump is unfit for office and that he’s fine with him being removed.

Some people here really need to chill the fuck out on Biden. I get he wasn’t your first choice, he wasn’t mine either. But he’s not some clueless dope singing songs and eating jellybeans. I mean WTF?

First part: Patriot Act II for the first. Less freedom. Less privacy. Mostly will affect other people. This is the hell we know already.

Second part: There will be more churches and synagogues attacked, more mass shootings? Also the hell we know.

All with 30% more hell.

Yeah good luck building something scalable on bare metal in a week.

What steps other than calling for unity do you see him taking in his first 100 days on this issue?

Tend to agree for the moment, but we needed a wartime AG (in the Godfather sense, not in the Iraq War sense), and I’m not sure the Merrick Garland choice is it.

Like 70% of the economy and 70% of people under 45 voted against Trump. The future is not with this bullshit. I am cautiously optimistic over a 10-15 year window, and I think the failed coup will reverberate over that time.
