I have openly stated I think most Trumpers are cowards. I still think that is true. But it won’t take many crazy fully armed ones to cause a lot of damage and chaos. To some extent the entire event Jan 6th was a microcosm of that. 90% LARPers and 10% serious AF people who would have killed members of congress if given the chance.

Very true. And as I was saying before being admonished about my lack of concern for individual responsibility, I think this coup attempt runs much deeper and is much scarier than anyone expects at this point. I suspect we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg to this whole thing
I have lefty friends who think the whole thing was hilarious. They have no conception of how bad things could get.
attempts at congresspersons lives are already not really rare. both giffords and scalise come to mind. there was a guy with a vendetta who murdered a federal judge’s son. michigan gov is in the same category. we are already living with this.

This is why they say you can get away with making the mistake of legitimately electing a fascist in a country with decently strong institutions once, but only once. Just enough people left in key positions to say No to where I think you are right… but very easy to imagine if him successfully pulling it off in 2024 after four more years of installing loyalists/purging dissidents with impunity.
