The problem with this inaccurate reporting/tweeting whatever is that it gives the protagonists something they use as ammunition … “leftists saying Trump on video watching the riots while whathername was dancing around - false” etc.
This is exactly the type of thinking I’m concerned about. It’s still early, so a lot remains to be seen, but the line between this being some embarrassing event with idiots snapping selfies in Pelosi’s office and stealing podiums, and a hostage scenario where congressmen or women wind up executed is not very wide. There were clowns, yes, but there were also what appeared to be some incredibly serious, well-prepared people that had a clear idea of what they were trying to accomplish. We have been warned about shit like this for many years. The FBI put out multiple reports about th exactly these kinds of people over the course of Obama’s presidency. Also, it looks like somewhere around 5 people will have died as a result of this “pathetic” attempt.
It all seems so analogous to right-wing memes. They are specifically designed to look like jokes and be something that people can roll their eyes at as stupid racists, but they also are very serious at the same time to a certain segment of the population.
I know I am way behind, just wanted to note this British piece on protesters was disturbing.
Maybe I have seen a hundred or even hundreds extremely similar videos from countries around the world. In almost every case I assumed their complaints were based in legitimacy.
Now there is one here and I know it is 100% not legitimate and it’s messing with my head.
Ah yes, brilliant idea. By tying the attack to a dead cop, we’ll tickle that deeply held belief in all conservatives and therefore win them over to our cause to oust Trump because he violated their core principles.
