The Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Episode XIV: T-minus 97 Hours

I don’t know. It’s getting pretty far into speculation-land to imagine the details of a coup plot and then handicap the chances of success of the plot. Maybe Zip-Tie Man and a bunch of colleagues who didn’t post selfies kidnap a bunch of legislators to prevent an official certification of a Biden win, then there’s some staged foreign or domestic crisis, then the civilian leadership of the DoD is telling the army that they have to focus on that rather than worry about all this messy politics, then ???, then become a god-king. Maybe that doesn’t actually have a chance of working, who knows?

They’ve got a shitload of religious BS to fall back on. The Lord works in mysterious ways, he’s testing me, etc.

On October 5th, 1789 a bunch of poorly armed women took over Versailles. It was planned in about the same way this attempted coup was. People were calling for such a thing and people did such a thing. But it wasn’t some tightly orchestrated military operation.

This post is especially triggering because of the use of double spaces after each sentence. I can’t make it halfway through the second paragraph.

I’m sick and tired of all this shit being heaped on Chilis. Theyve run a perfectly cromulent takeout business since this started.

Seemed like more of a Cracker Barrel crowd to me.

I’m pretty sure The Office is why I always default to Chili’s for my chain hellscape eatery of choice. Plus the apostrophe tilts me. Is it a guy named Chili or do the peppers own it or what is happening.

Good to see they could all hit the Embassy Suites happy hour after a long day of treason.

So Nazis take over the capital and the next day we’re fretting about whether it actually counts as for-reals terrorism and worrying over one of the Nazis getting shot?

JFC we are phenomenally lucky the right wing MAGA crazies were never quite organized enough, because there is zero will on the left to mount any kind of basic defense against these bullies.

I was always frustrated by the old logo, where the L extended downward and looped back up to connect to the H. It always made it look like “Chiji’s.”

I think the impact of Versailles in particular was control of the body of the King. That’s the sort of thing that doesn’t really have a good analogue in democracies.

I don’t mean this to dismiss what you’re saying, though. The French revolution was obviously one driven by unorganised violence, but I think it took a continued threat of that plus some audacious and organised political work to actually take power.

The latter seems lacking at the moment in the US, but if action on the level of yesterday continues then someone would try and provide it. Something like that process is already at play in the rhetoric of Trump and others.

They are part of a mob at that point, they aren’t thinking about consequences. They are swept up in the moment, it’s not surprising, imo.

Yea, aren’t these the people that own 15 guns to protect themselves from somebody stealing their Amazon deliveries? Lady is jumping through a broken window where a gun is drawn. Not sure there’s a more justified police shooting.
