The Presidency of Donald J. Trump, Episode VI: No Witnesses, One Defector, No Checks or Balances

I’m not sure where to put this but this is probably the most read thread so I’m putting it here:

I think there’s a bunch of us in western Washington. Any interest in a WAAF meetup to mourn what is likely the end of democracy in America?

If so, I’m voting for Smokey Joes for a cigar and scotch in Fife. Anybody interested?

Bill Weld does have a delegate. can’t even shutout a guy nobody’s ever heard of sad!

I know who Bill Weld is even without looking him up.

I started laughing hysterically at him tweeting out the win in every state today and everyone being like, “Oh God, is he really going to do this?” Gallows humor for the win.

We’re going to fall into authoritarian rule, if we aren’t there already (Canadian historians will likely say we were already there today), and millions of people may die from coronavirus because our government is run by incompetent buffoons, but the silver lining is once or twice a year they make you laugh uncontrollably at their stupidity or absurdity.

So thanks for that, King Donald. It’s the little things that keep us peasants going!

There’s something disturbing about how some here are now warming to his twitter abuse, as if this
is the new norm for how the president of the USA should communicate.

Insults are funny, I don’t know what to tell you. Obviously we still live in hell world and Trump is a monster. He’s just got a little Rickles in him is all.

And tweeting about his primary wins is just excellent trolling.

People literally cheering for trump itt. Am I on /thedonald?

Not just cheering but cheering for the exact same reasons his supporters cheer for him.

We are all so completely fucked.

Don’t destroy that pearl necklace with your iron grip Clovis

In the past few days you have argued the following:

-several prominent dems are no better, and in fact worse, than trump,

-trump is funny; and

-trump makes some good political points.

I don’t need a conclusion to this post.

You’re lying. Bloomberg, a republican, is worse than Trump. Trump is often funny, and his one (widely acknowledged) political skill is seizing on weaknesses of his opponents and hammering them. Literally r/td though. Do better.

There is no way to defeat trump unless you recognise those facts. People aren’t just random. They vote for him because all those things are true. Not true enough to outweigh the pure unmitigated evil of the trump regime but true nonetheless.

We are not suppose to cheer for him.

But he inspires that reaction by identifying clear enemies and faking solidarity with “us” against those enemies.

Trump is funny sometimes and very enjoyable sometimes (eg when humiliating Sessions on a daily basis). Don’t be so precious.
