So 2018 just didn’t happen? Like If Trump won easily and liberals were complacent and unmotivated in 2018 I would agree with the notion that dems are fundamentally doing something wrong. But literally the exact opposite of that is true. Trump barely won and liberals were the most motivated they’ve ever been in 2018.
The Dems ran on healthcare in 2018.
Healthcare, yes. I really think that they also need to push workers rights. Trump tries to carve into deplorable country blue collar workers by appealing to their racist instincts, and deplorable country blue collar workers have disproportionate political power as voters in swing states. But those guys will vote for Dem promoted labor rights if framed in the right way. I think that (for purely cynical electoral purposes) the left makes too much of a deal about minimum wage. Yes, for society’s sake minimum wage must be higher but the union types don’t like it when you talk about lifting up the people below them without also assuring them that they will also be elevated so that they still be able to punch down at minimum wage workers. This is stupid but psychologically important when trying to motivate voters.
And in 2016 troll.
I would make an ad pointing out how the deficit has blown up while Trump has been in office. Then, I would go into a litany of personal spending habits and stuff like Mar a Lago and pointing out that Trump went bankrupt several times.
Sure, we know that the big problem is tax cuts that don’t pay for themselves, but the narrative that Trump wastes money could hurt him in a bit in the frugal Midwest.
There aren’t enough union types left to make this a viable strategy. Only 6% of the private sector is unionized at the moment. Plus, most of the people you would want to reach with this message ARE working minimum wage jobs.
I learned nothing matters.
Lol. I guarantee you people in either city and either state will clearly say that is not the case. At least those not wearing helmets.
Pretty sure “Hice” means multiple house.
You hate to see it:

There aren’t enough union types left to make this a viable strategy. Only 6% of the private sector is unionized at the moment.
As I noted, my belief is that these 6% have disproportionately important political power in places like Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, etc. Many eDem strategies already depend on appealing to these specific voters already, with Uncle Joe / Trump-lite style appeals that are bound to fail. I am suggesting that Dems lean into this 6%'s labor instincts to counter the R’s racist appeals.
Plus, most of the people you would want to reach with this message ARE working minimum wage jobs.
I’m not suggesting to throw the minimum wage voters under the bus. I’m saying package the message around raising the minimum wage (which is good, essential policy) with a message of boosting strong unions. Let the union grumps know that you’ll bump them up by at least as much as the minimum wage worker so they don’t have to worry about “undesirables” moving into their neighborhoods.
I’m not yet convinced nothing matters. We increasingly see the GOP forced into positions (and sometimes doing so unforced) where they say the quiet parts out loud.
How many people care that the GOP senators decided it’s okay that Trump extorted a foreign country to bury a political opponent? Sure seems like a lot. Most people wanted witnesses and documents. The majority wanted him impeached AND removed.
If that’s not enough to at least remove him via election, then I’ll jump aboard the WAAF train. But in that case, nothing but the boredsocial approach will work, and in both of those cases, WAAF
Yeah I really think our institutions stop him dead in his tracks if he tries to ignore the election. It’s not that the GOP will turn on him so much as they will intentionally leave it to other people.
I do worry about what happens when Barr backs Trump though. Will the DOJ just say ‘you have no authority you just lost the election’? Will the federal government just start following the Democratic presidents orders when they hold a swearing in ceremony in January?
Like I have no idea how any of it plays out even.
To be clear I’m reasonably certain that he loses the election badly… but I’m also reasonably certain he claims it was rigged and refuses to stand aside after he loses the election. That’s the part where I have no map for what happens next… but I think really crazy shit starts to happen.
I mean it’s not that hard to steal a close election through the courts alone, see also Dubya, and here that’s like our least-violent outcome imo
Trump doesn’t have to refuse to leave office to inflict incredible damage after the election. He legitimately has two and a half months of lame duck status if he loses. He can do things we can’t even imagine during that time, along with refusing to help with the transition. We’re going to be extremely vulnerable to all sorts of insanity during that time, but its still better than being vulnerable to all sorts of insanity for four years if he’s re-elected.
Yeah if we hadn’t won the house in 18 we’d be fucked no matter what in the potential lame duck.
And it will rain pardons too
Thankfully he’s a fucking moron with no idea how to efficiently make use of the unprecedented marriage of functionally unlimited power and a complete lack of accountability.
What do you know, Rick Perry was right about the cancer on conservatism.
Man, is Rush only 69? I thought that mf was in his early 80s.
