It’s a lot better to enroll them early. 5-6 year old rescue dogs were cost prohibitive. High hundreds per year.
Our previous dogs were low hundreds per year. We generally broke even or a little better as they aged.
My sister just got a new puppy, to be her 2nd dog going with an 8 year old Aussie Shepherd mix she has.
He’s 4 weeks old, a catahoula mix, and he’s pretty cute.
I can’t have a dog because I live by myself and I’m gone 14+ hours at a time, but at least I’ll get to play with Monty when I visit her!

Sadly I lost my girl sunshine today. she got real sick with a intense gi problems and the vets finally narrowed down what they think it could have been and with her symptoms she probably wouldn’t have survived so we had to put her down. I got to be there with her at the end, which I know brought her some comfort, but man
I’m destroyed right now.
I just woke up wondering where she was because she used to sleep right next to me every night. I’d had her since she was 3 months old, and she was just about to have her sixth birthday.

Roxie and James are getting along very well, although James is pretty boisterous. He bit Roxie on the butt a little too hard while playing and she’s still pretty shook.
