The Pets of Unstuck

The puppies broke into the garage where their food is, now they look like they’re going to have puppies.

Labs will basically eat until their stomach explodes if given the opportunity. My parents have had 2 of their labs get into the food and both needed emergency vet stomach pumping or some similar treatment. I’m very jealous of dog breeds that you can leave food out in a dish for them and they’ll eat it responsibly, mine are not like that.

Our dog would probably go nuts if you put a Thanksgiving Turkey in front of her, but within reason she will not overeat. The dog food bag is right there and she can easily get all she wants. German Shepherd.

German Shepherds are such lovely dogs.

Jake is getting his muscle back. Doggie internist was super happy with today’s visit, expect his blood protein level to be good from today’s test and drop his roids down another notch.

For some reason Poppy decided to rest her paw on Jake’s back today.

My dog likes to go for cats. My dog is very good about not trying to escape. Today our gate was a little ajar. The neighbor cat just sat right outside the gate totally calm facing in the little crack at the gate while our dog was inches away just wimpering with frustration. We used to have a little treehouse in our front yard in front of our living room window and that same cat used to sleep there, now it’s confimed, just because it drove our dog crazy.

The cat enjoying that…might seem beyond what a cat is capable of (despite that being kind of their reputation), but there’s no other explanation imo.

Cats love sticking it up dogs. No question!

Blood test confirms good numbers. Steroid dose reduction! Roids do beget some weird behaviors. Ate a bunch of Kleenex the other day.

Cat sadism confirmed.

I’ve seen multiple examples of this.

I had a cat that would pee on my stuff if she saw me packing a suitcase.

Two classics best watched back to back.

“Dearest Human”

“The Authorities”

Reminds me of another classic that I’ll link for the benefit of those who haven’t seen it:

The second one is good too, although later episodes go downhill a bit as the maker went after that sweet YouTuber money.

The Henri videos are great. Henri recently passed away and watching those videos made me a little sad.

In our household the cat is the boss. He usually hisses at the dog, specially if he gets close to his food. Or for no particular reason.

Here’s a usual scene:

So we have called in the doggie behaviorist for Poppy the chihuahua mix.

Last summer she freaked out like in pain when we tried to take her walking gear off. Took her to the vet. Couldn’t find anything. She didn’t want to be picked up for weeks after that and took many days to want to be petted (but she would snuggle still, just no hands).

Happened a couple more times so we went back to the vet again. Saw the other Dr in the practice. Still can’t find anything. One episode my wife got moderately chomped.

Seemed to settle down for a few months. She had grooming appts and had to have her glands expressed a couple of times. No issues. If we put her little muzzle on she settles right down and does not at any point show pain on being checked for sore spots. Bizarre.

This week she freaked out again. Nicked me with an open mouth but did not bite. So we are going to try the behaviorist next week. We will see how it goes. She is wary but if we just sit quietly she will jump up and cuddle, just no hands.

The odd thing is she has in general loved being picked up and held previously. She sprints up the stairs with no pain and it takes her some effort with her little legs so it’s hard to think she has some pain that’s being missed.

Lady my wife spoke to says she’s had good success with the breed. Fingers crossed.
