The NHL Thread: It’s Back

For sure the non calls go both ways, but over the course of the series the non calls help the less skilled team. And Montreal has been the less skilled team in every series.

And I’m not just dumping on Montreal here. The Isles don’t make it as far as they did without the same bias.

That’s the NHL. It’s the most physically brutal in the playoffs without much healing time. One of the many reasons why it’s so much less predictable than the NBA.

Could Montreal rebuild even if they wanted to? The Weber/Price contracts are massive and don’t end until like '25. Seems like the bed is mostly made and even a competent GM would just have to roll with this lineup.

At least JK and Caufield look promising and are both only 20.

They’ll never have a top 10 team in terms of talent. This is their peak.

Meh, there are worse fates than 20% Cup equity being your peak.

Oh for sure. 3(?) years ago when Winnipeg was up 1-0 vs Vegas in the WCF I had the parade planned.

As far as I know it Weber could retire and then he becomes mostly Nashville’s problem.

Suzuki is pretty good too.

Montreal’s biggest limiting factor has been that they insist on having a francophone coach and GM. Turns out that limiting yourself to like < 10% of the talent pool for no reason is a bit of a handicap.

There are media guys in MTL who openly say they would rather suck than not having enough francophone players on the team. :face_vomiting:
Well I can still switch to team Stützle or team Seider in the future.

At some level, the whole province is full of people that sacrifice “winning” to preserve their culture.

Overpaying guys who can still play often works out fine. When Jake Allen > Carey Price things get ugly.
In 2 years Weber, Petry, and Price will be albatross contracts.

Yah, not so bad now, but they’re already 35, 33, and 33 and have 4-5 years left on massive contracts. Yikes.

There is a decent chance that Seattle might pick up Allen. There isnt much else. Doubt they would take Drouin where nobody knows whats really up with him. Will be interesting who MB protects. Probably his gritty defenders.

I think they’ll lose someone like Edmundson. The protection rules are kind of punitive with regard to defenseman. You can keep 7 F and 3 D, but if you want to protect 4 D you can only protect 4 F.

That really sucked. Couldnt really sleep whole night. Always checking in on the phone. Saw the shot count and then the 1:3 happened. During breakfast I watched the recap. First one Price saves on a good day. The 2nd and 3rd are just stupid plays by defenders. The recap didnt even show many of the chances which leads me to believe that most shots were not very dangerous. A game like this could really break you. If they cant win on friday I assume the parade is on Tuesday. :frowning:

I thought the Habs had lots of shots from bad angles, tbh.

Vasy had a few really good saves, too though. if he was having a bad night it could’ve been ugly for us.

Yeah I already figured that because the recap video barely showed any highlights.

Right up there with the Fla - Col monstrosity.

At least that went to OT in Game 4.

So I guess we’ll see?
