Is the stat true that whenever the leafs and habs face off in the playoffs, the winner goes on to win the cup?
Looks like yes, unless you count the 1925 season where the Habs beat the Toronto St. Pats (who would become the Leaves 2 seasons later) but failed to win the Cup. Otherwise it would be 15 out of 16 times that it happened.
When the other team has the puck you can’t shoot.
So, I admittedly didn’t watch much hockey this season, but I tuned in for the finals. Is the shift timer thing new this year? For the playoffs? I don’t recall seeing it before, but coupled with the AWS ad on the ice it seems awfully dystopian. “See, we can now track the players as closely as Bezos tracks his employees!”
Just waiting for the modernization of coverage by ESPN. Who will be the Steph A Smith of the NHL?
I watched the entire game and have no clue wtf you’re talking about. the digital ads on the ice tilt me to no end though. l
They put a ticker up to the right of the score showing how long each player on the ice had been on the ice. Are you American? I’m sorry, I don’t actually remember, but if not we might be watching different broadcasts, because the AWS ad was under the ice, to the left and right of the center circle, not a digital ad.
yeah, I’m in central Florida. I don’t actually remember what ad was shown on the ice tonight but normally it’s a digital bleach ad shown in the area you’re talking about. l
Shift times have been a thing forever. Only recently have they started displaying it, to be more “analytics” friendly.
I see. Thanks.
Well Tampa brought Habs back to earth. Hopefully they can turn it around in game 2 somehow otherwise we might be done in 4. MTL won only 1 of the last 16 games against Tampa. As a european it’s always hard to watch games if you have to go to work. I might tune in on Friday. I focus mainly on the home games because I want some emotion going on for my team. Nothing better than the Lehkonen goal in game 6 gainst vegas. OT GWG in front of your own fans there is nothing better than this.
I truly think Montreal is by far the weakest team Tb has played in the playoffs. Montreal would be a decent underdog to carolina/Florida and a slight one vs NYI.
now would be a good time for montreal to have an outbreak of covid, and for tampa bay to stay classy and refuse winning by forfeit, thereby making both of them co-champions.
it’s been done.
The problem is that this success so far overshadowed the shortcomings and made MB look like good GM. They wont get rid of him in the forseeable future now. There is a good chance this team doesnt make the playoffs next year in this composition.
Without the gift of Covid realignment they would have missed the playoffs, people would recognize Price’s longer term decline and not his short term outlier performance in the playoffs, Bergevin probably gets fired and they go all in on a younger core and try to rebuild the defense. As is, they probably bring back the same team with one or two changes and miss the playoffs next year, then try a rebuild with a year lost.
Just a bizarre run. Variance and an injury to a top 10 player in the league get them the first series. Then they get DPS to go well overboard and Winnipeg packs it in round 2. Then Vegas decides they must lose in a bizarre way every year.
I said the same thing when the Habs got blown out by Vegas in Game 1 — literally said to my Habs fan director that they weren’t playing with kids anymore. I also remember them getting beaten by a similar score by the KANGZ in Game 1 in 1993. I won’t believe they’re done until they’re well and truly in the grave.
Another big factor is that officiating has been, as per usual, way too permissive in the playoffs. When the refs put away their whistles its a big advantage to the clutchy lesser team. Sorry, I mean the more physical team with more heart.
Tavares is not a top 10 player in the league. I doubt he’s a top 50 player.
Yeah ofc. The habs had to suffer through Chris Lee. Perry had a bleeding nose but ofc nothing happened. You must have watched the wrong games.
