The NHL Thread: It’s Back

Wanted the OT, but can’t complain. Game was great. Shame that the Oilers were so gassed in those last 2 minutes.

Lol, my wife asked “why are there like hundreds of rats on the ice?”

Also, poor Keith Tkachuk has packed on the poundage

Joke. Ya it will make like the 6th story and 4 people in Florida give a fuck.

Lame as hell.

lol florida hockey.

Oh man, the NHL theme should have hit the tournry too

Lotta rats in Florida for sure.

Happy for Paul Maurice, at least.

Wooo Connor. Enjoy your trophy.

TV malfeasance losing the shot of Barkov initially hoisting the cup.

Did the volume cut out because the fans were saying something?

This was my first thought as well. Fire that director

fun series. gotta admit, i was rooting against loil.

Not sure how anyone outside of FL was rooting for them. First ever reverse sweep possibility. First cup for Mcdavid possibility. First cup win by a Canadian team in 31 years possibility.

Florida winning was just a non story.

i’m just a cat person. also my partner is from south fla. canadie winning one isn’t on my priority list either

“These pussycats, playing without championship success in their 30 year history, in an arena dropped on top of tropical swampland, found their inner panthers after getting smacked back three games in a row and having their adoring fans preparing for the team’s journey across the Rainbow Bridge…”

plus luongo finally hoisted one.

maybe they’ll bring pavel and valeri bure back for a ceremony too.

This is not a reason to root for anyone. Bullshit like this is what caused hands across America for the Boston Red Sox in 2004, something the participants involved have never adequately apologized for.

To be fair that was some bullshit about a curse and shit. Reverse sweeps are fun. You get to laugh at the complete collapse.

Also, they reverse swept the Yankees.

Anyone who was rooting for anything other than a meteor strike of that series was doing it wrong

Except that the meteor strike isn’t actually happening. Someone will win. When you have two brutally unlikable franchises going at it, one successful and one not, there’s a pretty clear strategic choice that people just willfully overlook: root for the successful one if you’re going to watch at all. You already have to live in a world where that franchise is successful. One more win by them is whatever. The alternative is rooting for a second Frankenstein’s monster to activate. It’s not a close decision.

Anyway, rooted for the Panthers in this series because I don’t like Edmonton and am indifferent to the Panthers. It’s definitely a really uninteresting thing to watch a Florida team win, but I preferred it to the alternative. Thankfully at least we got a great game 7 out of it.

If the mean annual temperature is above 18 degrees there should be zero professional hockey teams.
