The NHL Thread: It’s Back

Seemed to be some off ice stuff, the management is basically portraying the outgoing coach as a wimp the players don’t respect. Their desperation move is to hire a Good Old Hockey Boys Club insider, I guess to tell the players to take more penalties etc. Who knows, it might save their season. On paper they’re as good as Montreal and if they sneak into the playoffs they’re not gonna outscore Toronto.

Please send the Senators to play the Rangers, I am not a fan of the NY coach.

Hes strange, the best interview/press guy by a mile ive ever seen. Smart, thoughtful, exceptionally clear with what he wants.

Coaches like a middling AHL guy with not much in the way of a transition system, but he should be way way smarter than the product he puts out. It’s weird.

A big problem for him is that locker room is very passive and weak. Way too many passengers and type B guys. Kinda passionless. Half the team needs to be turned over.

Excellent coach AFAIK

I think he just needs to play his best players. He has a weird habit of giving big minutes to scrubs.

Last year he got ripped for running Panarin and Zib into the ground lol

Can’t win. I mean, unless you win

Yeah I would say that its more the fact that he seems to manage minutes without purpose. Zib on the PK, third liners with Panton, etc. It seems like its all chaotic.

@mosdef briefly mentioned Paul Kariya in another thread, and it just sprung up memories of seeing him play in college as a Freshman for Maine. It was completely unfair how good he was versus everyone else on the ice. It’s the perfect visual example of “man amongst boys” even though he might have been the youngest one out there.

I’m enjoying all the buzz around Toronto media today. WE GOT NICK FOLIGNO BABY! AND CALGARYS REJECTED BACK UP GOALIE! PLAN THE PARADE!

Refs hate the Pens.

Everybody hates the Pens.

They have been good since like 1985 somehow.

Fuck the Pens.

Well, they were all time bad for like 3 years which is how they got Crosby/Malkin.

Strategic tanking works.
Wonder if they would like to have MAF back?

Fuck you. That one hurt. Still not over.

Pens bad until early 90s. Missed playoffs Mario’s first 4 years and 5 out of first 6. Then two cups. Then Kelly Hrudy. Then about 8 years of anywhere to not good enough to meh. Then the wilderness for a few years. Then a four year drafting run of MAF, Malkin, Crosby, Jordan Staal. They’ve been good for 15 years. Kinda thought they got over the hump of the last few years disappointment. No Jack Johnson, Eric Gudbranson or slow Ollie Maatta on D.

They could use this year’s version of MAF. Not the 2010-2014 beach ball version.

Edit—meant to add they got lucky to get Crosby. They absolutely tanked to get Mario including sending down a goalie that was playing too well. But the 2005 draft was after a lockout and the Pens were one of four teams to have three balls.

That’s awesome about the tanking. Didn’t even know it was a thing way back then, I thought the idea was created in the NBA recently. I guess it’s just more openly displayed in the NBA, but has probably been going on for awhile in most sports.

Thank god I didnt ruined my sleep schedule for the playoffs. 2 goals in the last 3 games is terrible. Yet MB probably will still have a job next season.
