The biggest lolz of that draft are the 12 teams who passed on Aaron Donald for literally anyone.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Not sure even Aaron Donald’s mom had him over Clowney.

Browns traded up to get Gilbert, too(after trading down), so he clearly was their man.

even in foresight that was obvious if anyone bothered to watch film and rank accordingly

clowney didn’t do much his senior year (edit sorry junior, came out after that) and everyone just made excuses for him. He isn’t that athletic for a DE (straight line running he’s fine but overall it’s just meh), at a position you have to be but his game is different and he can win with that, but he’s not good enough at it that teams keep him around.

donald is small height/weight wise for DL and that moved him down a lot of boards cause that’s how people do things. Also he’s way better at 4-3 3 tech than 3-4 end so 3-4 teams might’ve not had him on the board.

I have some chart on 2p2 where I tried to group think it a bit or use analytics but that chart was completely wrong and that was dumb I would’ve put donald first if I just ranked them how I wanted. there’s like 400 posts out of me on 2p2 bashing clowney and loving donald coming out that draft, why the hell would I ever rank clowney ahead lol me

reports said that’s who pettine wanted and farmer was too weak to tell anyone to buzz off and make any pick, same thing happened later with manziel and the owner

gilbert though, another one of those athletes who film didn’t quite match his athleticism and well, for every one that somehow pans out later, there’s five that bust. If they’re not college studs with elite athleticism you have to ask a big why??? before you pick that player, most teams do not

ebron was funny, a tight end who coming out had stone hands a bit for catching a football, couldn’t block someone, or run a route (he rounded every cut it was unreal), clear top 10 pick cause he looks like jimmy graham.
has or had an okay career but sheesh

Multiple NFL draft experts stated Ebron looked poor in his positional drills and highlighted the drops as a cause for concern

this is in his wikipedia talking about a pro day. lmao like dude how do you look bad at a pro day

Clowney owed his entire mega-elite draft status to that hit that knocked the dude’s helmet off.

How would you rank the top EDGE prospects in this draft - including their pro projections?

Donald had unreal production and measurables at the most valuable position on defense. Yes, DT does not get as much hype as DE, but only because getting that kind of production out of a DT is so much rarer. Being consistently disruptive up the middle is much more valuable than consistent disruption off the edge. But even if you still think that Clowney was that much better of a prospect, there are still 11 teams that made huge mistakes.

I liked Ojabo a lot before he tore his Achilles

Travon Walker is gonna be awesome… opinions on him differ but some have him going as high as 2.

Pretty deep draft at edge and WR, which is great for my terrible Falcons.

Not so much at QB though. I wouldn’t have put a 1st round grade on any of them, even though inevitably 3 or even 4 could go in the first round just because they’re needed that bad.

Yeah some of the Chiefs pundits seem to think that if Walker or Johnson somehow fall to 10 or lower, maybe the Chiefs will use the capital they got from the Hill trade to trade up. There seems to be zero chances of Hutchinson or Thibodeaux falling that far.

The other question for the Chiefs is if the second tier edges like Mafe, Ebiketie or Karloftis are at 20-ish, should the Chiefs trade up?

I’d love to snag Ojabo at 29 or 30, as long as we have another edge to fill in until he recovers.

And then there’s the whole idea that the Chiefs really want to trade up for Olave or Jameson Williams. The local pundits tend to poo poo that. But ultimately they don’t know shit.

My dream draft would probably to somehow land Jameson Williams, Ojabo, and Louis Cine. We have the draft capital for that, but we’d have to use most of it. Or trade away next year’s #1. But they probably won’t do that since the draft is in KC next year.

But I’m just regurgitating the stuff on the podcasts I listen to. I am legit curious on @wheatrich’s take because apparently he’s a student of this stuff. The draft is fascinating to me because the best minds in the sport can only nail a first round draft pick like 1/3 of the time? Also for the first year since 2008 the Chefs have a ton of draft picks.

This year’s draft class as a whole appears largely unremarkable and generic. No one is being talked about as a once a decade sort of talent. Even the guy who is supposed to be going first overall has been a blip on the radar in terms of publicity.

I mean this is the draft to trade out of for 2023 picks.

Yeah but remember Jamarcus Russell and Clowney were considered generational talents, while Mahomes went 10th and Donald went 13th. And Tom Brady went 199th.

That’s the fun of the draft.

But I do agree that next year looks better than this year overall.

Davis is probably that player.

PFF had a mock the other day putting Walker above Hutchinson

didn’t watch film or pay attention but with edge the default (the nfl doesn’t do this of course) is sort by athleticism, walker is over hutch there slightly. (this is all on mockdraftable in spider chart form)

The rumors are, per multiple sources, Baalke is all-in on Walker while coach Doug Pederson leans toward Ikem Ekwonu and the scouts favor Hutchinson.

via pff mock draft–this is the most jags thing possible

How are you arriving at this?
