yep.

iā€™ve been reeeal lenient with him. heā€™s the quarterback of my favorite team, so iā€™m gonna root for him. heā€™s obviously a piece of shit. but he also sucks at football now and is no fun at all to watch.

so basically, you HAVE to have a quarterback. we never have, so you take a big swing. and you missed. so now how do we go about fixing that?

itā€™s basically the perfect situation to tank, be upfront and the fans will be fine. take a year, probably two and get your shit together. stockpile draft picks, hell draft a quarterback. get younger, give myles garrett whatever he wants to be joe thomas #2 and try to show some joy on the fucking field. bc this ainā€™t it.

Sounds like Goodell might give them an out.

I think a ton of young QBs get ruined by getting thrown out there in year 1.

When I become owner/GM of the Phins, no drafted QB will start in year 1. If the starter goes down, maybe. But even then, probably not.

I think that has been the Packers secret sauce. Two GOATs in a row and maybe a 3rd, none a full-time starter in GB until after their rookie season.

Would Mahomes be Mahomes if they just put him out there day 1. Iā€™m honestly not sure that he would be.

Isnt it also dependent on how good your starting qb is? Like what exactly is drake maye learning while backing up jacoby brisset?

Stroud and that commie dude look legit

I think you have it or you donā€™t.

And more Goff shade. Dude made a Super Bowl like year 2

I donā€™t think a large part of the learning from the incumbent directly. Itā€™s just getting used to the pros, going to practice, learning the playbook thoroughly. seeing how your teams prep/game plan translate to the game situation.

I really think there is a ton that can be learned even if your starter sucks.

Yeah the way I understand it QB are learning from the QB coach and offensive coordinator and not dependent on the veteran starter. If it was the other way Rodgers never would have learned anything.

Sideline QB gets to participate in the game planning for 17 weeks, wear a headset on the sideline and understand how the communication and game flow works, what vet QB and coaching staff are seeing and talking about in game, etc. Itā€™s not the same as being on the field and feeling the rush and seeing the coverage but Iā€™m sure it is helpful for like 80% of the job.

The NFL insane asylum is full of promising qb prospects who could have been something if only their team had competent coaching and good players surrounding them.

I think this is harder than it seems. This was a long time ago, but I lived in Philadelphia when Andy Reid drafted Donovan McNabb and chose not to start him. The city (as reflected by WIP callers) was IRATE that they had McNabb on the bench while Doug Pederson started. If I remember correctly, Reid finally gave in and started McNabb after more than half the season had gone by.

Man, Philadelphia gave Reid and McNabb far more hate than they deserved.

Of course, I assume that GM Melkerson would stand up to the uninformed masses.

Correct. But there is key part of the plan that aids in this endeavor:

Iā€™m basically gonna be Jerry Jones. Ainā€™t nobody gonna fire me unless I pull a Donald Sterling. I can take all the heat.

You can have all the right ways of doing things but if you get the wrong guys it doesnā€™t matter. Steelers plan might have been perfect but if the vet bridge QB is Trubisky, the rookie talent is Pickett, and the offensive coordinator is Matt Canada itā€™s going to fail, and the same things that are protecting the QB from crashing are also ensuring that the failure plays out slower and sets you back further than just throwing the kid out there and seeing if he has ā€œitā€.

Say what?

Fuck that. Iā€™m not supporting a Maye after Luke Maye hit a last second shot to beat UK in the 2017 NCAA Tournament

You canā€™t give away years on a rookie QB contract. I mean, you can, but then youā€™re $55M light if that QB turns out to be good.

My point is that he (probably) wonā€™t turn out to be good, if you throw him right out there.

@Melkerson whats your read on the Dolphins this week? Thinking your fake sharp coach maybe worked some things out and Tyreke would be a sneaky dfs play

I donā€™t even DFS, only season long for me. I have zero faith in McD or the QB situation. Heā€™d have to be pretty dirt cheap for me to even consider.

Iā€™ve bet on the Colts and expect them to cover easily. Maybe theyā€™ll surprise me again. I bet on the Pats also.

If he did work something out, I suspect it would be run game related.

Dolphins should trade for Zach Wilson.
