Yeah but Von Miller also benched 20 less reps and had a worse 10 yard split despite being 20 pounds lighter. No one cared about the shuttle because his 10 yard split was amazing and, for DE, shuttle is really just another measure of acceleration.
You also have to consider era. Back then scouts were focused on 3 cone as more important for corners and linebackers. No one said âbut itâs over 7 secondsâ because in 2008 there wasnât even any consensus that number was meaningful at DE. It was generally something where they had to be above a certain minimum. Regardless Gholston has the 5th best 3 cone among DE in his draft class.
And the bar gets consistently raised. Showing a spider web graph about how his numbers compare to players who came out 14 and 15 years later doesnât accurately capture how good it was at itâs time and how many combine watchers were surprised when he didnât pan out.
I was super into this stuff from around 2005-2010, consumer everything that was available online about it and have clear memories. I still follow the draft process to a degree but less so nowadays than back then

I know the draft is weak at DE but people saying sweat is a stud are delusional, heâs a run defender and well better than what the bears have as a pass rusher but heâs just what slightly above average pass rusher but durable? his win% rate isnât that good this season.
