The NFL Thread 2: 1. T Swift

God bless him. Hope he puts a chunk in his 401k

There’s a 22k/yr limit but it goes up if he plays til he’s 50. Might be worth it.

Apparently nfl players get really good 401k matching.

The get 2 for 1 match up to $1500 dollars. :joy:

Mahomes contract gonna be straight robbery soon enough

  1. Mahomes

Hot take: the increase in % of cap going to QBs, especially 2nd tier guys like Hurts is a mistake, and going to fuel the narrative of “YoU nEeEd A Qb On A rOoKiE dEaL” and/or lead to a plateauing of QB pay soon. Or I’m a moron. Also possible.

SMH my head man, damn

Gotta love seeing Sooners get paid.

The critique I’ve heard that makes sense is that Hurts’ elite efficiency, what makes him a great player, is also the same trait that led to his shoulder injury and will lead to future injuries: his running tool.

Unless you’re built like Cam Newton, injuries are inevitable with that style. And, like Drew Brees with wheels down in Miami, an injured QB carrying a big cap hit is not conducive to winning.

NFL competition committee just playing the long game against Philly… Give Jalen the big deal and then change the QB sneak rules next off-season.

My other take is that the top tier is

Mahomes

that is all.

Those dudes aren’t pushing Jalen; they’re along for the ride

He’s definitely on the tier that’s the first one after JALEN HURTS

I can’t imagine any possible way this works out except for the salary cap being fake and teams being able to backload / restructure indefinitely. Seems like we’re in the era of “every signing has to be a market reset” which doesn’t make sense unless salary inflation is 5000%. The only reason they appeared to be dominant last year was from being absolutely fucking loaded at nearly every position and playing one of the weakest schedules in football. That’s unsustainable by design in the NFL.

Spoken like a true Bama homer, and I can respect that.

Lmao these numbers are like $80M short? Salary cap is so fake that it’s like that annoying disappearing dollar meme.

Yes the whole non guaranteed piece is the last year. If he’s still a legit good an then he gets it restructured before the really huge hits happen pushing it further into the future when the overall payroll will be much higher. If he gets hurt/sucks he gets cut. Remember 2023 is the end of his rookie contract.

If that’s his last year salary it’s also a pretty good defense for him against getting tagged

That would be $75M, but there’s another $87M missing just in guaranteed money. These numbers don’t add up.

I think it’s 6 years in total (1 carryover and 5 new). The fifth year has to be huge and the 6th year insane. So if after year 4 out of 6, he is worth signing they will extend him before year 5. If not they will have to eat year 5 and then release him. One year of horrible pain and probably some dead cap money in year 6.

I guess there is a chance the league says eff you and kills the deal.
