The NFL Thread 2: 1. T Swift

I don’t know if this is true but…

During Snyder’s first year as owner (1999), he left a tub of vanilla ice cream in our defensive coordinators locker (Mike Nolan) relaying the message that our defense was too “vanilla”.

When asked about it by team reporters Nolan took it as a joke and brought it home to share with his kids. Snyder then left another thing of vanilla ice cream at Nolan’s locker, this time with a special note attached saying “This is not a joke. I really don’t like vanilla”.

Scott Hansen going to be the only NFL Redzone host going forward. I know this is not the choice many wanted.

The Sacramento Kings just clinched a playoff spot.

The NY Jets now hold the title for longest playoff drought in major American pro sports. 12 seasons.

Do people actually prefer Siciliano? I’ll take Hansen and his witty remarks like “premature eJOCKulation” all day (yes he really said that)

I’m not sure people have really gotten a taste of both to compare. I’ve only had access to Siciliano, and I can’t honestly say whether he’s better or worse than the other guy (guys?), but he seemed fine to me.

I just got that impression during the season from people in the game day thread. I had DIRECTV and AS for a while but had Hanson the last couple few years. I don’t really mind either of them.

Apparently the way they did replays and such was different between the two versions, as well. Like one showed a lot more replays and the other was almost entirely live action, or so I have read. I can’t really confirm any of that without watching them with that in mind.

Didn’t realize anyone but Hansen did Redzone, he’s fine but I don’t really pay attention to announcers closely.

I didn’t realize there were two entirely seperate redzones until last season when I went over to a buddy’s house who “had redzone” and I was like wait a minute what is going on here.

Hansen one is light years better and it isn’t close imo. Sicciliano was so monotone and boring in comparison. Plus all of the Scott Hansen tag lines are like a weekly event for the people I watch it with. Not to mention playing drunken sailor right before the countdown clock starts on Sunday morning.

More Andy reed stolen from r/nfl:

True story. I have some experience with this. I worked in the NFL as the Visiting Team Locker Room manager (Falcons). And when the Eagles (during the Andy Reid era) were in town it was a whole different deal for me and the staff. Mostly because of food.

Most notable was the coaches and staff feast after the games. Standard in the NFL was the staff got stadium hotdogs at halftime (delivered to the Locker room) and post game, nothing. Just dress, and get out…some teams have small boxed dinners to take on the bus to the airport.

But the Eagles during the Reid era, What a pain in the ass. The coaches and staff had an entire buffet, like the kind you see at a nice event. Big tables set up in their Locker room (separate from the players locker room). And after the game, they had gathered and went to town on this huge awesome meal. No other team did this…zero, zilch. It also meant we would have to work late because it takes time to enjoy a buffet. Luckily we don’t clean up the food, housekeeping takes care of that, but would we would have to hang out until they were done so we could lock up.

Andy Reid’s desk. This was another weird thing. He had a desk we would set up and it was VERY specific on how it was set up. Very meticulous on where the tissue box would go, where the candy bars would go. It was a whole process and it had to be right. The other stuff was normal things like pens and paper, but I remember candy bars and a few other treats. Most coaches did not use a desk. Reid is the only one from my recollection.

Lastly, pickle juice. We had to bring in extra refrigerators because they loaded them up with jars of pickle juice for the electrolites. Most teams settled on Gatorade being enough but the Eagles has pickle juice out the ass back then.

They were a ton of work, probably the most work of any team.

You can pretty much tell what kind of adult each of these kids is going to turn into.

My now 37 year old son at age 6 or 7 (tee-ball) fielded a ball at shortstop and ran over to first base to force the runner.

When asked why he didn’t throw the ball to the first baseman he loudly replied “Timmy can’t catch”.

(He also saw the catcher not paying attention on a ball hit to leftfield. So he covered home. From centerfield. The leftfielder/shortstop/Centerfielder turned catcher executed a perfect relay to get the runner).
