Correct. I’ve seen plenty of cicadas but this was the fist time I had seen one shedding its skin. Unfortunately I stepped on an in ground yellow jacket nest when taking the picture. Womp womp.

Interesting looking place, and I like that the photo you used was a bit blurry and of a part of the mountain/an angle not usually photographed. Googling “California painted mountain” got me there pretty quickly though.
