Winning championships as a QB will always get you more hof cred than any regular season stats. It’s why eli and Ben will make it but guys like Rivers might not. Most QBs who are top 5ish seem to find a way to bink one Superbowl at some point though. Rivers is a bit of an outlier there. Stafford is first ballot if he can win a Superbowl but otherwise it’s questionable at best.

He was blocked by Manning and Brady in his conference plus the Chargers always seemed to be so beat up in the playoffs. Was t there a year they played the Pats and were absolutely devastated with injuries?

I think Rivers played on a torn ACL/MCL, can’t remember which, and one year the little running back that whined a lot was out.
Or maybe the rules were changed for both pass blocking and defensive back play.
Rule changes had a lot to do with it. Another big aspect was that passing strategies outside of rb checkdowns focused on deeper outside routes that are naturally going to have more incompletes and interceptions. It really wasn’t until Bill Walsh’s west coast offense that teams really started emphasizing short quick passes with more completions and less picks.

But would the west coast offense have been successful under the old rules? I have my doubts that the two developments are independent. Timing routes don’t work well when the DBs can manhandle the receivers in their routes
