The problem for the nfl is the politicians would get involved. Imagine how many deplorable congress critters are chomping at the bit for a chance to score political points if any real punishment were handed down.
On a related note, 1 player out of about 800 Australian rules football league (our biggest local sport) has so far refused to get vaccinated, the result, his contract is likely to get torn up or at best he is on inactive list at minimum wage. Ah to be an athlete in the land of the free
