I don’t envy wide receivers crossing over the middle. Looks more like crossing the Styx sometimes.
Receivers being protected from the worst kind of hits when they go over the middle now is a big reason for the passing game opening up in recent years. Although looking at Chase’s drops I only see one or two where he would have potentially got lit up if he had caught it. Others were just pure butterfingers. It’s not a great look. People always overreact to the preseason. Probably because the first step to being a draft bust is to look like you don’t belong in the league during your first preseason. Many players recover from a poor early showing though.
Sometimes it’s take players longer to get it after they make the leap to professional sports.
