The Crypto Thread

Crypto haters like to lol at each individual use case under various pretenses, but that misses the big picture of the use cases piling up and the inevitability of their number and effectiveness to keep increasing.

Not trying to defend Binance, but have banks frozen all Russian accounts? Like if a random Russian citizen had a Citibank account, is that frozen? I tried to google and couldn’t get an answer (although I only spend about 5 minutes searching).

Is it murderous dictators, though, or is it ordinary Russians, most of whom oppose the war? Here is the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine:

The idea here is not that they’re going to sanction Putin and his cronies and that the hardship experienced by ordinary Russians will be collateral damage. The idea is explicitly to financially destroy ordinary Russians as a means of destabilizing the regime.

That is economic terrorism. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s beyond the pale. This is high-stakes manoeuvring. But I gotta say I am sympathetic to the argument that Russian people, who did not choose their government, have a right to defend themselves against financial ruin.

I wouldn’t call it terrorism, but then, I don’t think that all terrorism is inherently bad.

Fedorov in that tweet is spelling out that the idea is to “sabotage” the ability of Russian civilians to protect themselves from financial ruin. I don’t know how else you describe trying to inflict pain on civilians for the purposes of achieving political goals.

weird how nearly everyone else does it in a different way

Lol of course you don’t.

It’s not terrorism if it is a lawful action and if it is done by or at the behest of a state. Terrorism is an unlawful act by non-state actors.

Some people just deserve to die.

Yeah but the game overall is still fun to play. Axie is just a job with silly graphics.

I’d expect anyone who went through UIGEA and Black Friday to not be gung-ho about blanket freezes of civilian assets.

Video gaming was so much more pure when I was pumping quarters into the machine over and over and over again hoping my skills improved just enough to make each subsequent 25 cent game last a little bit longer.

Hell, the business model of the first video games was quite literally getting me to spend my lunch money on them instead of food.

I was merely pointing out that the GAINS made by BTC today coincide with invasion and subsequent refusal by exchanges to freeze the accounts of Russian users. War seems to be good for crypto.

This is true, but it sucks! Fifa is a worse product now than before FUT became popular.

I think I even read they make more from FUT than the actual game, and if they don’t it must he close.
