I feel like someone might be scamming here.

more detail …

The winning bid was $2.9 million, placed by Soban Saqib, a 25-year-old cryptocurrency nerd, NFT collector, and freshly minted millionaire from Woodland, California.

“This is pretty much my entire liquid net worth,” said Saqib, who goes by “Soby,” soon after the auction. “But I fronted the $3 million knowing that the community has my back.”

A week later, TheSpiceDAO asked its members for $6 million — $3.8 million, after taxes and legal fees, to buy Jodorowsky’s bible, and another $2.2 million to make an animated film inspired by his vision. By the next day, the donations from thousands of friends, well-wishers, and perfect strangers totaled $12 million.

“I woke up this morning and my jaw dropped,” Saqib texted over WhatsApp. “I told you the community had my back!!!”

I don’t really understand any of this but the book looks pretty cool.

Cryptophunks market cap?

Yeah, that’s a good example of an exception to the rule.

So I am a complete moron who doesn’t understand smart contracts or chainside shard mining and shit, but it kinda seems like these cryptobros think that if they buy this book they will then own the copyrights to Dune? I don’t think that’s how any of this works?

The community in question is TheSpiceDAO, a network of Dune-loving cryptocurrency enthusiasts — most of whom have never met each other in person — who hatched the plan to liberate the sacred volume from private ownership and make it available, in some form or another, to all the obsessives who have long dreamt of flipping through its pages.

Damn, if only we had away for the public to flip through the pages of this show bible and see what’s inside.

“It’s almost like a jailbreak kind of situation,” Saqib said. One idea is to make an animated film inspired by the volume. Another is to hold frequent IRL viewings where enthusiasts can see it for themselves.

brb, I’m off to jailbrak my copy of Lord Of The Rings and make millions from movie deals.

Jodorowsky claims he literally raped an actress for a rape scene in one of his movies. I kinda feel like that’s something that should be mentioned any time his name is brought up.

There’s an OrokuSaki mentioned in that twitter thread. Same guy from 2p2? I thought we lost him in the transition.

Hahahaha. I wonder if anyone tried to redeem after realizing these are fake.

A few days ago, Wikipedia decided that NFTs are not art. Some of the editor comments were essentially “I have no idea what any of this shit is and am unwilling to learn so it’s not art.” Surprised me because I’ve never seen that take before.

A lot of people have taken what should be a healthy (and probably justified) skepticism about crypto and NFT’s and turned it into irrational fear and hatred. Just one more battle line in the civil wars of everything, I suppose.
