You still haven’t shown that this language is in any way prevalent. Ok, so it wasn’t “never”. Can you actually get a ratio of posts that contain this language to posts which don’t? Because by my latest calculation, it’s about 10:10^6 in terms of orders of magnitude - about 1 in 100,000.
If the language is so rare then why do you care so much if it is censored?
That was sort of the point of this forum.
If convictions of innocent people are so rare, why do we care if they get executed?
Ok, that’s an NVG-worthy analogy, and I don’t really care, in the sense that I don’t want to use the word myself. But, you know, principles.
At this point, I am questioning your good faith. You should probably consider leaving the thread, because your percentage of posts bit is absolute bullshit and obvious bad faith.
It’s not bad faith. If you think I’m posting in bad faith, ban me. I’m not leaving.
OK

You literally already told us you’re playing devil’s advocate ITT.
That is not relevant. We are not making a movie here and arguing about the script; we are discussing whether, as a forum, the word makes people feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in a way that warrants disallowing it.
And what if magical elves overtook the forum tomorrow?
The devil does not need advocates. You’re turning this into intellectual masturbation and not an attempt to solve the question at hand.
Mr. Campbell, who cares?
Can’t help but notice the defenders of the word are trying to make the issue about anything but “does it offend people here in a way that we should ban it if we want them to feel welcome?” I certainly understand better all the recent complaints in mod threads about feeling like this place sucks, if this is the attitude enough vocal people take toward this sort of thing.
My personal take: I’m not offended by its usage myself, but if other people are, then, is it really that hard to find another way to express yourself? Is your vocabulary that limited?
Yes. Devil’s advocacy should be reserved for intellectual exercises of little to no import, not serious forum business. Maybe some leeway will be granted if literally no one is arguing an opposing position, but someone acting in good faith in that capacity should yield in the face of reasoned opposition with overwhelming support. Literally (and in this case explicitly) manufacturing counterarguments for the sake of it (many of which are outright contradictory) is textbook bad faith, and that’s why d2 ate the timeout.
Trolls complaining about being trolled. Delicious.
Some mod fail on my part not actually hiding this post. But now the software won’t let me. A little help?
It says it’s “temporarily hidden” for me, but I was still able to see it and quote it.
Then will call this mod action a horseshoe (or a hand grenade if you’d rather) and consider it close enough.

Not a legal move imo.
LIterally was about to post this.
